I think in my opinion another evidence of dark winter is feeling better with a little bit of eye make up than nothing. Because of the high contrast between eyes and skin the contrast asks for a bit of definition around the eyes to softnen everything, almost as a buffer/transition layer. I feel like I look a bit sick without it.

I found out that I was dark winter in the early 90s. I discovered that my entire wardrobe contained colors from the winter scale and black, white and gray as base colors. I had been drawn to those colors instinctively before I got to know my own season. Our brain is wise and chooses right for us. You just have to trust it. Even the interior design in my home is in the same color scheme as the wardrobe! Dark winter has so much contrast in its appearance and does not need much makeup. We have strong eyebrows and dark eyes and in most cases prominent bone structure by nature. A little concealer, loose powder and mascara will go a long way. But you need red lipstick in quantities as the icing on the cake.😀 Thanks for a great video. ❤

@nitzan37822 жыл бұрын
I want to add that for us olives it's particularly hard to determine the undertone. Kept wondering why browns wash me out, warm-red lipsticks look clownish on me and the one time a professional makeup artist put a frosty pink lipstick on me was the one time I looked good before I discovered color analysis and practically married the color purple, especially wine purple which is now my go-to to everything that isn't foundation, mascara and shoes, something that as a fellow DW I'm sure you can relate to. 14:50 I think it needs to be mentioned that nude looks wrong on a DW because our lips shouldn't be nude - they look tinted even without makeup, which isn't true for, say, Summers and Light Springs and Soft Autumns, who are easily overpowered by the lipsticks we need to just look like we have any makeup on. I noticed both on myself and other DWs I saw with no makeup that this 'dark pink' on Kendall often IS the natural color of lighter-toned DWs. A 'nude' looks that strays from one's natural colors is usually a bad idea.

I’m glad you mentioned that an all white look isn’t as flattering on a DW; I thought I was crazy for thinking it, but it makes sense. White looks better on me sparingly and I prefer it away from my face than close to it. I almost wish I was a bright winter because I love how white looks on darker skin (I realize now that they are bright winters), but the contrast just looks weird on me unfortunately. Do you think a black wedding dress (or a dark blue/purple one) would be more flattering than a white one on DW? It’s unorthodox but I’m not religious to care about it anyways.
@MikaelaCarrizo2 жыл бұрын
I honestly break the rule all the time because I love white and wear some colorful earrings with it :) usually green or blue. I have a minimalistic style so white is a staple in my wardrobe, I use white shirts with dark blue jeans to generate some contrast and add a nice earring to it or silver hoops. I also wear my dark red glasses all the time so they usually create some contrast. Wearing white pants and a dark top usually works really well too. Those are some of the ways I wear white and I have liked it, adding a scarf from your color pallete is also a good option. About wedding dresses... Bright white, pure white, I mean icy looking white will look way better than ivory, stay away from ivory actually. A good alternative would be a silverish dress. Black wedding dress would look well depending on how dark your contrast is, if you're in a REALLY high contrast black looks amazing. Midnight blue also. A lot of brides from different cultures wear red for their wedding dress, a wine red/burgundy could be an amazing non traditional option. If you really want to wear white and you want to look your best, I would complement it with a BOLD lip (it would generate the contrast from the white contrast and you will look amazing) a bold lip isn't that traditional but I think it will look amazing with white and minimalistic makeup. Another option is adding earrings / necklace your color, sapphire earrings or emerald or ruby, all would work great and compliment the white, maybe same color shoes? There are little tricks and details like that that you can try to create contrast and compliment your natural colors and contrast! Hope this helps

Oh my gosh, same. I swear I am terrible at make up, but it's just that dark winters don't do so well with all the warmer tones that exist in make up and BRONZER is the worst hahah.

YES, YES, YES to all of this, Especially the make up. I really do believe less is more and thank you so much for validating that. Really excited to get into my make up and fashion journey.

I have olive skin tone which looks very warm at first sight but warm colors don’t compliment me. Also silver looked weird on me so I ruled out the cool seasons. When I was draping fabrics I was looking for a sign of “healthy” skin but since I don’t have such much hemoglobin showing trough my skin it was difficult to see wich color was best. The warm colors seem to blend with my skin but they didn’t make my skin look healthier. So what I did first is try to mimic the blush coming for my skin or how it supposed to look if I could blush. I did the old trick of pinching my cheeks.I mixed a red with a little bit of purple and the difference was huge. Autumn seasons are full of peach and toasty blush and lipstick recommendation a, there’s no way I’m looking good in those. I realized that I looked my best in berry shades and my greens are more like teal green. My best nude is a brown with a tint of purple and also my black is more a cocoa brown rather than chocolate brown. Since my skin is soft, black is too harsh for me. I’m still doing my research to find my best metal. But now I can really tell I’m a winter ❄️

I don't know if I'm a DARK winter or not, but I VERY attracted to the dark blues and greens, and burgundy. And definitely prefer deep red "intense" lips.

Thank you for this very interesting video. I found that primary characteristic is dark, then muted then cool. It doesn't surprise me because I've found myself drawn to the darkest colours of soft summer and shy away from the brightest colours of dark winter. If there was a season that blended those two, I guess that would be for me.

I’m so glad I watched this. I can never pick warm or cool. Both gold and silver look good on me, silver looks slightly better but also it depends on the time of year and how tan I am. So I’ve been so confused. Didn’t know if I was a dark autumn or dark winter and you saying they’re sister seasons makes me feel so much better. I don’t match the hair though. My hair has a ton of red in it but is dark. I have a high contrast between skin hair and eyes - but I pull cool. How?

Thank you for this video. I am pretty sure I am a Dark Winter for the most part. I have been told I am a neutral in skin tone. I tend to wear black a lot and find when I put my pictures in black and white I am very high contrast. I have been able to wear some colours from Dark Autumn but it has to be the right colour or I look terrible. I can wear gold and silver but tend to prefer to wear silver/white jewelry so do not have much gold. I know pastels look terrible on me and avoid them. I have been told I look better in jewel-toned clothing, like rubies, emeralds and sapphires. The makeup colours you showed are also ones I tend to gravitate toward which I find fascinating. Hoping this helps me embrace my season and colours and stop wasting money trying colours that aren't going to work for me.

I have to agree about bronzer. It does so little for me, but i love it. If I'm really trying to kill, I will skip jt

Makes sense. Brown eyeliner on me vanishes in relation to the color in my eyes, eyelashes and eyebrows- with black, dark/ brigth blue and dark plum eyeliner everything looks equally rich and deep

Stoked for this video! Truly appreciate the info and value you share!! I wanted to note - there are some bronzers that can be worn, as make up companies are developing more makeup to meet a wider range of skin and undertones - there are bronzers being developed for cool and neutral undertones to add not warmth but dimension that looks natural (ei where the sun hits your skin first, not necessarily to add “warmth”). It’s still TOUGH to find something that isn’t so warm leaning and won’t look orange, but searching KZbin/Google for bronzers for “cool undertones” may help. There has been a movement in the makeup community and demand for a greater range of skin tones with an emphasis on undertone and color theory. It still has a long way to go but thought I’d share some of that info!

That’s interesting! Let me know when you find one! all the bronzers I’ve bought never look good on me. I also hate going to buy make up and asking for help because they immediately select a warm undertone as I have more olive skin and it always looks awful on me. I currently use Make up Forever, ultra HD foundation and love it and I do better with minimal blush and no bronzer at all (not even for contouring, when I’ve tried my face looked dirty not sunkissed haha)

okk thank you, this video solidified for me that im a dark winter! ive basically arrived to most of these color rules already for myself, but i spent the longest time looking for dark winter celebrities that have ashy brown hair like mine. your hair in the video actually looks the closest to mine ive ever been able to find. but the colors of the alternative - dark autumn - always looked extremely off on me, too warm, making me look so much ashier and muddying up my contrast. all black, on the other hand, makes my contrast pop so much. one thing tho - i overwhelmingly prefer gold on me. good to know that that also makes sense, with dark winters being neutral.

I always knew pastel pink made me look sickly and dull this explained it really well I have a lot of dull pink clothes that I wish I never bought it’s so pretty but I can’t wear them!

Wait so even if we contrasted a pastel pink with like a dark purple would that also not work either? Or does the pink have to be more neutral

The makeup suggestions made me realize why I struggle with bronzer, nude lipstick and most eyeshadows. I’ve bought many expensive eyeshadows that end up way too warm. I gave away my supposedly neutral Biba palette because it made me look sick.

Oh my gosh, everything you said here totally makes sense with me. I’ve never really listened to the seasons color, but I always think that my features look so intense, I could never wear brown shades nude lipstick, and I could only focus on one thing on my face if not it would be weird to define my facial focus. and now I know why, I sensed it, just didn’t know all of this definition…u gave such clear explanation and I thank u for it!! Esp the color palettes and suggestion. Now onto the next homework: combining this being a contrasted look, to my contrasting body being a gamine in the Kibbe body type! 😂

Im having a hard time distinguishing myself with dark autumn and dark winter. Im leaning towards dark autumn but my skin tone is neautral both green and blue veins. Gold and silver look good equally. Maybe gold in summer and depending on outfit. Silver in winter due to less tan and also depending on outfit. I uave no problems with black and greys, my 2 fav colors. When i wear warm colors my ethnic warm colors come out and its fine.
