The animation for this song is remarkably well done. The lineless art style and the movement of the characters perfectly matches the dark theme of this song and it gives you a pretty good idea of what's going on.

The characters were rendered in photoshop as seperate pieced PNGs, and were assembled together to give the illusion of motion in Sony Vegas. It was a pretty time consuming process, but well worth it. :)

Supposedly during the Edo period (kinda like before and during world war 1) many families were poor and had little money, so they sold unwanted children: orphans, the homeless, devil children etc. They were then experimented on (like transplants and shit) and the ones who survived would be put into freak shows. Some even speculate that if they did something wrong or misbehaved they had acid thrown on them or were tortured. But then, it says Kaito has a brain transplant for a dog's and Rin and Len's heads were decapitated and sewn back on onto one body, and currently that could never be done with them surviving so chances are it's bogus.
