I'm not sure if I'm wrong, but the final assault in the darkest dungeon seems to have no torchlight, similar to the shambler fight. I wasn't paying attention, so maybe it plays then.

Really late here but- In the final fight of the Darkest Dungeon (The location) when the Heart of Darkness spawns it'll swap the OST from the torched version to the torchless.

I'm like doing a permanent torchless run, currently on week 12, can't find motivation. I did kill the shambler once, he gave me ancestor's candle (buffs locked behind torchlight 50 or more) Edit: ended on week 32, deleted save file after full team wipe at "Take Back The Farmstead" (note: they were dead forever, dismas also died there, reynauld was dead by like week 6)

Just beat my first torchless file a couple weeks ago. 128 weeks in with about 50 or so deaths. The second darkest dungeon mission without torches might just be the hardest thing you can subject yourself to in this godforsaken game.

I genuinely didn't think that there could be a torchless variant of the final combat theme. Entering the Darkest Dungeon without light is pretty much suicide.

I'll never understand people who claim DD is "nothing but RNG" or "grindy" or whatever. Doing the endgame content with some of my most trusted heroes I've poured tons of hours into, knowing that if they die, it's over, with this soundtrack surveying our every battle, was one of the most bliss, tense experiences I've ever had playing a video game. I am so glad Red Hook did not backpedal on any of the punishing design decisions they've implemented, because what they've created is nothing short of sublime.

The difficulty is not insurmountable, but unmodded it is grindy as hell. The crawl of one step forward, three steps back is a slog that most people don't have time for.

I almost ran out of torches on DD2, and the final Templar fight dipped below 50 torch. Man, was I panicking, wondering if I’d find the guy before I ran out of light. Didn’t help that I lost 3 hero’s to this level previously.
