One of the best pedal demos I've seen. A lot of demos out there do stupid crap that aren't helpful at all in helping me judge the pedal, like doing finger tapping, slap, and playing too delicately. I like that you really dig into the strings to bring out the tonality of the bass, which in turn lets the pedals really shine.

Came in here planning to confirm my hunch that I'd like the B7K more. Got completely blown away by the vintage. Great comparison.

Brilliant examples of the units themselves and loved the comparison using the same settings on each. Very helpful and fun to hear, thanks!

Awesome comparison. Very in depth. Thank you for this. For me it's the B7K but the Vintage Deluxe is great too.

Great comparison, on some settings I think it's the Vintage one for me, than other settings the B7K.

the vintage one has more fuzz and (sometimes) more warmth but the microtubes is a bit deeper and is a tad more articulate in my honest opinion.
@morten17 жыл бұрын
And the b7k is more scooped and modern sounding, while the vintage has more mid and tube punkpunch. But I'm sure you can easily make them both sound much like each other just by adjusting the eq. So it's more a matter of "which default setting suits me most?"
@MustDote5 жыл бұрын
Great to see both settings up close like this. You really know your way around the changes! I preferred the Vintage so pleased to have just bought one s/h

Grato!
@VictorHugoTargino7 жыл бұрын
Obrigado!

Great demo Victor thanks dude. Which is your preference actually? I'm preferring the middier Vintage 'right now', I think its a more classic tone with that elusive midrange having both depth and warmth, whereas the more modern B7K can push the lows further and sounds great now, but will probably sound dated in 10 years...any thoughts? Am I picky? Yes of course!

Great video! What settings on the vintage are you using at the very start at 0:28?
@VictorHugoTargino6 жыл бұрын
Can't remember the position of the switches (I usually boost the top end and cut the low end, though, so you might want to start from that point), but as for the knobs: Blend at max, Level in the middle, Gain a little bit above middle, boosted Bass and High Mids @ 2 o'clock, cut Low Mids and Treble @ 11 o'clock. I hope this helps! Cheers

Hi there, I'm torn between the Two, still. I play mainly rock songs - muse influenced. Some RATM, GnR, foos, etc. Some punk - sum 41, paramore, blink. But recently the Motown sound has kinda interested me. I have a distortion pedal and a big muff. I'm using this mainly as a preamp. As such, do I need to get the Ultra? Some days I like the vintage but on certain days when I re listen I like the b7k. Do you have a recommendation for one?

I was wondering if it's safe to run a pre-recorded line level DI signal through the vintage deluxe pedal to then send the affected signal back into my interface to record it. I'm a bit scared to try it since I'm assuming that the pedal was made for a bass signal that hasn't been amplified by a pre amp yet.

I replied to your comment on the other video. Same answer here too, get a reamp box and it will be fine.

This is how all comparison videos should be done! Do you have a favourite between the two?
@VictorHugoTargino9 жыл бұрын
+Christopher McGuinness Thanks, Christopher! I used to lean in favor of the B7K, because it's more what I like personally as a player. But, as a producer, I can't help but love the Vintage Deluxe; I like its midrange, kinda Geezer Butler-y tone, and I feel like it really opens up my possibilities in the studio. Hope you like the other videos as well! Cheers from Brazil
@matthewkirchner79049 жыл бұрын
+Victor Hugo Targino So I see you just posted a b7k ultra review, with all the mid control that it provides, how does it compare in your opinion to the vintage in the studio setting you describe?
@VictorHugoTargino9 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Kirchner The B7KU and the Vintage Deluxe are still two very different things, even with the extra mid range controls; the clipping is different, so the voicing is very different. With the B7KU, you basically have a B7K that can be a little bit more surgical when it comes to eq'ing and blending clean and distortion, but the tonality is still the same.
@matthewkirchner79049 жыл бұрын
+Victor Hugo Targino Right on! Thanks for the feedback. Excellent videos, thoughly enjoyed the whole series you did on the Darkglass pedals.

Does the drive NOT go below 12 o'clock? :P Would be great to hear the comparison between them as clean contouring preamps without the drive functions kicking in.

Vintage for me, but it is absolutely subjective. There is no “better” or “worse”. It’s all about personal preference.
@robertjohnleehorse6 жыл бұрын
Why did you not record the D.I. out? They make standard pedal versions for half the price if that's all you're looking for.
@calebmills23458 жыл бұрын
The B7K seems a little bit more articulate than the Vintage to me. Seems like the B7K has a wider range of tones although it does seem to be a bit more scooped in the mids, maybe?
@Leiria658 жыл бұрын
Caleb Mills the general consensus seems to be that the BK is mid-scooped and has a more metal appropriate sound and the vintage is basically an SVT with every knob up to eleven and a lot of mids

Most pedals sound the same when playing straight bass, If you play a lot of top distortion ...? Why .its not bass ,just boring ..frustrated lead guitarists ,leave it to the six string boys ..they sound better any ways
