Surprised you didn't mention the bow - the discerning dodge on that thing is dirty! I've never really used bow before but it was one of the easiest weapons to kill Rey with in the beta. I guess it does involve juggling coatings and trackers, but if you can wrap your head around that I honestly think it's the highest DPS in this game. I'm an SnS main personally though and was happy to see that make the list 😁

I personally think the bow is one of the strongest now with pretty much infinite coating and tracking its so good i just hope that in the main game we can make the tracker last longer than 10 seconds it was the only downside i found we even have a new perfect dodge animation that looks really cool

I'm still debating on what to main in Wilds. First weapon I thought of was bow cuz I never really played it in the past games and I actually like the "archer" fantasy. I played it extensively in the beta and yeah the damage is nuts but the literal physical strain when playing it is as well. Constant dodging, while aiming and shooting, really made me feel "exhausted" after some time. Pair this with managing tracer arrows + coatings and you got an aweful lot to do when playing this weapon. I was hoping bow wouldn't be this shotgun like super short range dodge machine in this version but more of a methodical medium ranged weapon...

​@Ashamran same i understand people wanna stay in the air but once i figured out the ground play I was always on the ground unless I'm mounting. The insect glaive ground game is way stronger now and them bringing the kinsect combo from rise into worlds setting is just the icing on the cake.. I tried the sword and shield and it was about the same wen it came to mounting.

@uSil031 I'm pretty sure it was still Bow, and if you only mean Melee gor some reason, I think it was GS. In sunbreak it was HBG, and DB, I think. The complaint about being tripped are extremelly fair, but they aren't about power, which is what we are discussing here.

Yeah, for newbies HH is really hard. But I am very happy that HH is back to it's formet glory from it's Rise vacation. The fast moves were cool but they killed the whole song concept. Now you really feel like playing a (murder)instrument

I really like how the sns focus attacks give you options to go into your aerial attacks. Gives its aerial attacks a lot more usage. Hammer isn’t drastically different, but I feel like that’s what I love about it. It doesn’t feel like its identity has been changed at all but has a few new useful things added to it. The gunlance was a weapon I tried in Sunbreak but dropped because of how mediocre it felt. But now it feels strong and way more fun to use. The greatsword is a weapon I avoided because I didn’t like how a lot of it revolves around TCS plus I sucked at monster hunter at the time. But especially with the offset attack, it feels really good. I’m not an expert on it yet, but if we get another beta, I’ll give it another try

Correction for the Spirit Release Slash (Helmbreaker follow up): The first 2 slashes should hit within melee range for it to be a "range attack" failing to do so will result to a miss.

I think the best weapons in the Beta were: 1. Bow (insanely strong) 2. Greatsword (insanely strong) 3. Longsword (insanely strong) 4. Chargeblade (plays like it should and very strong) 5. Gunlance (most improved weapon from MHW) Hammer and Dual Blades were great too. Funny enough, the two weapons I mained in MHW were Lance and SnS, and I thought they were the worst ones lol...

I'm surprise that you didn't put Bow instead of LBG Perfect bow is hard but Tracer into wound is very effective and very easy to do. Less effective than Tracer into power coating but way easier to keep up and since you don't have to dash dance stamina management is less hard. And Tracer Shot/shot/shot/thousand dragon is so fun to watch

Idk why capcom makes bow only playable as a close range dodge spam machine.. kinda sad. I really like the archer fantasy, but it's so straining to play this weapon. That's why I never really played it much in the other monster hunter versions even though it was always one of the best dps weapons in the game.

My first time using longsword in Wilds, I ended up hunting two lvl 3 frogs at the same time. I am not confident when using longsword in the previous games, but I it was freaking easy and fun because of their rework.

Overall the beta was fun. I used every weapon apart from the HBG and the HH( I didn't have enough time sadly). The DB and LS felt great. The lance had some good stuff but they need to speed up the response time after a block. Hammer felt a little too fun. GS felt solid(wish i had more time). IG felt weird in a indifferent/ bad way to me. SnS felt pretty good. Bow felt nice. Gunlance felt different but good even though I was trash with it. SA was nice.

I have been a Greatsword main my entire life ever since MHF2. So my secondary is just gonna be a sleep status weapon. So DB, HBG, LBG or HH. So I can just do wake up TCS a lot.

If anyone watching this video is actually considering playing monster hunter for the first time, don't depend too much on these kinds of videos. They have their merit of course, and can help you make a decision on what weapon to use, but never pick a weapon because its "easy" or "highest damage." When it comes down to it, any of the 14 weapons could be your first, and limiting yourself like this could dissuade you from finding the weapon that really clicks with you. You might find charge blade or hunting horn super fun and easy while other people prefer long sword or bow. It is the most subjective element about the game, and no one hunter's preferences are the same as another's. My favorite tip that I always stand by, even if it feels arduous, is to just take your time in a training room or with an easy (chatacabra) monster to go through all 14 weapons and really feel them out. You may be surprised. Happy hunting

I started in MHW with charge blade and it’s still my main weapon to this day. This is absolutely true. These are some good suggestions for sure but anyone who’s new should try everything in the training room and try some things in some easier hunts. You never know what will click with you.

Question, how do you guys feel about the switch-axe? In my opinion, the direction they took in wilds feels like a worst longsword, because, exept the new full release slash and zero sum discharge, the moveset feels weak in damage, slow and unimpactful like you don't really feel the hits. Also, the switch gauge drains way too fast which force you to play like the longsword, build gauge, get your bars/get amped state and then helm breaker/ZSD-Full Release Slash.

Yup it's one of the weakest most unfun iteration of swaxe. The counters don't feel rewarding and you lose a chunk of hp anyways. The gauge management is too much. The "ultimates" are too commitment heavy and you can't change it with focus mode. The attacks feel like hitting with wet noodles. And the dps is abysmal. Rise sunbreak swaxe was so so good they should just swap whatever we are getting in beta with sunbreak one. This is why I don't main only one weapon but 4-5 so I can choose the best among them in a particular game and be happy

i'd like to mention a con to the sns it feels like the range of perfect rush has been nerfed, during the beta, there were a lot of times where my perfect rush attacks missed, even when i was right next to the monster. idk maybe its a skill issue, but i've used it a lot in world and rise and perfect rush felt like it had more range. but other than that, its pretty much just the rise SnS without wirebugs and slowed down a bit to worlds pace

I played with long sword mostly also tried sword and shield they are great to play with, just preordered Wilds. I have only played single player games and have played monster hunter as a single player only. Do you have a beginners guide for multiplayer or know of one, do not want the other hunters wanting to kill me more then the monsters.

I like what they did with the longsword, but honestly it's kind of disgusting when you compare it to other melee weapons. Long reach, mobility, attack speed faster than sns and rapid hitting of ultimate moves outshines even dual blades while possessing otherworldly motion values. On top of that you get many counters and even hyper armor for certain moves. Only downside is that everyone hates you either because of jealousy or for staggering everyone around. I think we should establish that THIS is a beginner weapon. Because once you decide to move on a challenge yourself a bit, it's time to switch to another weapon.

Aww. No love for the lance? The best weapon for sitting in the danger zone for the entire hunt, yet has one of the simplest combo that increases in complexity the more you learn it? The weapon that has the best as well as the most frequent counters as you do it automatically for perfect guarding, plus gets a followup? The weapon that can block any hit in the beta, yet also has several powerful offset attack? That is also one of the best at getting mounts thanks to having a multihit aerial attack built right into its dash attack? The lance has both a low skill floor yet an incredibly high skill ceiling and does almost everything in its own unique way on top of being the closest to being an invincible weapon. Not to mention the surprisingly gentle learning curve to teach you how to go from newbie to expert all in one weapon, as a lot of the hardest moves it has are just done by pushing the limits of a more basic move it already has. Capcom's given lance so much love this time around, it's sad to see it get forgotten once again just because it's not as flashy as the long sword or dual blades.

So technically I never played mhw gunlance, but it’s probably the best iteration of it in the franchise based on what I’ve heard from gunlance players. Shelling can now scale with damage, you get two wyvern fires, shelling doesn’t consume sharpness, wyvern fire has a HUGE range now, and probably other things long-time gunlance players can tell you. Guarding is also better too

Not to disillusion you but I think there’s only going to be a 3-5% increase as they’re balancing it for self improvement to be upped to 20%. The better option is status ammo from one of the blowguns or demon ammo etc.

Man everyone keeps saying sns is good in wilds, but even though it's one of my mains I probably wont use it. In the beta it took me 27 minutes to kill ray dau, compared to 8 minutes with CB.

Perfect rush was added in iceborne to buff the SnS damage. In rise is was nerfed, but the weapon was given better motion values, and increased stun on its bash to compensate. The issue with wilds is that they nerfed Perfect rush, made the triangle combo worse for damage, and only added a charged thrust attack to compensate.

I wouldn't say bad but I think you need to be very precise with the Lance to deal good damage and be useful. You are safe most of the time while using it, but it's easy to fall into the trap of not paying attention to the right combos and counters. Focus mode helps make Lance easier as you can more easily aim the weapon at the weak spots, but it's not one of my first recommendation for newer players

As CB main, I also struggled to like it at first. After maybe 10-15 hunts I changed my mind and love it. It feels different to me but in my opinion you there's now 3 viable play styles. SA, probably highest damage but not my favorite. You can still play saed...now it just means you need to guard point counter which is how I do it anyway, and my favorite is that you can easily blend the play styles seamlessly based on what the monster is doing. The ability to focus aim saed is so ridiculous good....no more whiffing with all your vials

I personally felt like the Savage Axe side of it was always underutilized so I appreciate the change. SAED is a lot weaker in the demo but I honestly expect it to be much better on release once we get the Artillery + Capacity Boost skills. Add that to the new overcharging mechanic and we could be looking at a lot more damage than we're seeing now

How is it a downgrade? just because you can't spam SAEDs anymore? If that is the way you want to play, you still have the ability to do it out of a perfect guard or guard point. Even if the damage got a nerf that really won't make that big of a difference to the majority of players, most of us aren't minmaxing speedrunners, after all.

@Ashamran you can still spam saed with guard point which is easy but limiting the ways you can go about using the weapons different functions such as neutral saed or having to use focus mode or perfect guard to use savage axe mode is a downgrade. I said nothing about min maxing or speed running and saed damage could be busted depending on skills in the full game im not worried about any of that. The weapon doesnt feel as good with the changes
