Wow, this was fantastic, really cinematic. I genuinely don't understand how these characters aren't together. They are friggin soulmates, darkness and light, yin and yang. Hell, even Ben Barnes said it himself. Just because Mal is the good guy does not mean he and Alina belong together. The Darkling and Alina they defy each other, they challenge each other, it's so interesting. Yes, the Darkling is manipulative and he is violent, but that's what he was taught in order to survive. I mean tbh I think Zlatan is more of a bastard, letting Fjerdans in, so they can raid the docks and kidnap and kill Grisha, no wonder the Darkling wants to kill them. Throughout the decades he's only had himself for company, to make decisions, and he's become colder and crueller because well, of time. With Alina, he doesn't feel alone anymore, he feels like he could spend forever with her. That moment where she touches his hand and the light just exploded, his face! His face said it all. It's like he's saying I've finally found someone, and Alina could really be his balance. I feel like when she said to him that he didn't give her a choice, neither did she. When Baghra took her, she should've went back and gotten the truth out of the Darkling, she knows him better than bloody Baghra, he would've told her I think, and she could decide from there. She doesn't get how much the Grisha had to suffer and maybe he could've told her that so she could understand. I feel like he really wants to protect Alina as she is the only one like him, and, if they got the chance, the other side would try to kill her. I swear, there is literally so much potential with these two they're really interesting and complex characters. I hope Netflix realises because God knows I'm going to fucking lose it if they don't.

Yes there's potential but it will stay potential unless the darkling stops being straight up abusive. There's a quote from the books I think where he says "you could make me a better man" and she responds with "and you could make me a monster." It's not her responsibility to fix him
@ekaluraw43762 жыл бұрын
I mean, he kinda said how they will end up eventually. He said to Mal "I don't have to kill you, time will do it for me". He lives forever, and he said that it might take years for Alina to forgive him, but she will probably come around. And maaayyybeee he can use that time by making some personality progress

@@ekaluraw4376 according to the book..darkling was killed by alina. And at the end she lost all her power and lived as a normal human with mal. I haven't read the book, but that's what I got to know from comments on many videos. Its not like he lives forever, I think its more like..someone like him can only be vanished by someone like him, alina.

I'm think they were meant to symbolize what happens when one dives too far in the abysm. The Darkling had the power to control darkness and became blind by it's power, his immortality didn't make him wiser, but broken, he cared too much with the other that continued to die and leave him alone, so he alienated himself from these feelings hoping that only his "equal" could save him from those dark feelings. He kept thinking about the future of Ravka, the future he would have Alina, took it all from granted and "the ends justify the means" without realizing how close of no future at all he would have if he continued like that. And Alina symbolized all that was good and inocent, so she was easily manipulated, into a slave by the Darkling and later into a Saint by the people. She onlt thought about saving evryone in the present, without giving a thought about the future (I've played too much Dragon Age and Diablo to know that Saints only end in the pyre). Yin and Yang are not only complete light and darkness, there is a little dark in the yin and there is a little light in the yang. Aleksander and Alina were not able to complished that and compromise. Besides, no one likes to be manipuladed and abused by a old mad man. I drew the line in the collar thing, that was way too far and from there on I just wanted to see blood. That and my complex with people patronizing others, that just make my blood boil in "I'm gonna burn the circus dowm just to rip that smile out of your face" way.

I know that the Darkling is impulsive and rash but if you just look at it from another perspective, he's scared. He doesn't want to give his enemies the chance to hurt the people that he cares about, like in the past what happened to his lover. Alina didn't know but those people that he killed with the fold were actually planning to kill them all once they've crossed. They were not good people, he couldn't wait to let her see that which was his mistake and impulsive nature. But I also get the feeling that Alina is going to change in the next season, according to that man in the library, after the showing and when Alina was leaving. He grabbed her hand and told her that she's dangerous and will continue to be dangerous. I have a feeling that something will happen to Alina in the next season and the Darkling, who is the other side that completes her, because light cannot exist without darkness, will be the only one who can help her. He's her amplifier and an amplifier have 2 purpose, to either increase or decrease. That's what I think at least, this is my own theory and the novel I'm writing about Darklina inside my head😅

I totally agree with you. Darkling was right but too impulsive and violent. A lot of people followed him so it's the best evidence. He knew that people will always hate grishas, even though they use their magic. Darkling tried to be fair and lost his love. So he realised that there are two choices. One that ordinary people will rule and kill and exploit grishas. Or the second one that grishas will rule and defence their lives and dignity. In this way, Darkling was right. However, he treated Alina in a very rude way without any understanding and patience. Alina was more a simple human than grisha. She didn't experience so much evil as Darkling. That's the problem.

Wow, that was - brilliant! Superb editing - it’s all the best scenes from the show in one dramatic, cinematic edit. I caught myself thinking: This should’ve been the official trailer. That’s how well it’s done. Thank you for sharing this with us; it’s a total delight. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be playing this video on a loop.

No you're not, it's human nature. I mean there is still hope given the fact that they didn't quite follow the book in the first season. Hope they'll not follow in the second season as well. But yeah logically speaking, they are not soulmates but they aren't meant to be together. One them must die..that's what their fate is. My heart aches thinking about that..but still I'm hoping for a different ending and I'll stick to that until the end 🥺
