This song PERFECTLY fits the story of the Titanic. I think that the use of this song in Ghosts of the Abyss was one of the best uses of a song I've ever heard in any film or documentary I've ever seen. R.I.P. Titanic.

I was 10 years old when Ghosts of the Abyss was first released. It’s the best documentary on the tragedy of the RMS Titanic to date in my humble opinion. It was also honestly the first film I saw where I watched the end credits until the screen went black at the very end. Hearing this song while watching footage of the wreck, topped with that dramatization of Captain Smith’s ghost walking along the rusting remains of the starboard lifeboat deck, it’s a cinematic experience that has been engraved in my memory ever since.

I remember this so well.... it first gives me chills but now it gives me some comfort for it makes me know that I'm not alone. But I now at times hear this as the voice of the RMS Titanic singing in the dark of the Atlantic.

Kanefan701. And as for her little sister in belfast who is currently serving as a museum ship and a storyteller to the current human and ship generation alike. Now that the 109th anniversary of her beloved big sister’s sinking about to come to pass..Nomadic is preparing to do her prayers to her sister as every other one since that day Apri 14...followed by ships joining in prayers and chants with SS Nomadic. SS Nomadic will pay tribute to the gift of music titanic gave this world..by instructing all irish ships in the harbor to sing nearer my god to thee in honor of her dear beloved sister titanic..and as usual as very two fifteen in morning nomadic would look up to the stars and pray as the irish shipd around her sang the song she instructed them to sing.

I still can't get over the fact that when James Cameron lead the expedition to look at the wreck of the Titanic with Bill Paxton who through the whole thing thought about what it was like for those who were onboard that when they started doing this was just a couple of weeks before 9/11 which surprised me lot I mean I didn't know about that until I saw this and this was also the first time I heard this song 'Darkness Darkness' great work Jim Cameron you really are a great explorer as well as a film director.

Recap on Lyrics: Darkness darkness be my pillow Take my hand let me sleep In the coolness of your shadow In the silence of your deep Darkness darkness hide my yearning For the things that cannot be Keep my mind from constant turning Toward the things that cannot see Darkness darkness long and lonesome With the day that brings my happiness I have found the edge of silence Oh I am in depths of fear Darkness darkness be my blanket Cover me with the endless night Take away (Take away) the pain of your way Fill the emptiness with light Darkness darkness hide my yearning For the things that cannot be Keep my mind from constant turning Toward the things that cannot see

It must be so depressingly lonely for poor SS Nomadic now that she has entered her 109th year without Titanic. If ships and vehicles like the SS Nomadic they would tell numerous stories. But the Nomadic’s story is marred with tragedy, darkness, loneliness and eventually hope for her future.
This song really calls to me. Its taught me to take comfort in my "darkness" my sorrow my bitterness my envies. Ive learned to make the most of my "darkness". If you cant fight it, Join it.

Such sadness. A truly evocative song, no question. I was watching excerpts of Anne Boleyn going through the last moments of her life before her execution, and remembered this song. How macabre it may sound, but imagine if this is something akin to what her spirit might be thinking should she be haunting the world after her death.

I have heard it before by the youngbloods. and their version is good but a change to sound was necessary for the movie. LT made it haunting because your watching about the most famous shipwreck dealing with death. while the Youngbloods made it for the sixties jumpy and fun and was about drugs i do believe. So appreciate both versions for what they are supposed to be dealing with.

Decent enough cover. Well executed. That being said I HATE IT when lyrical liberties are taken. Though I'm sure JCY isn't going to send back the checks, I'm just as sure he doesn't like it either. Either way this version doesn't hold a candle to the original. Sorry. It's the truth. It's here on youtube under 'Darkness Darkness Youngbloods'. Give it a listen. JCY OWNS the song. Ms. Torban for all her gifting merely borrows it.
@peterwooster3958 жыл бұрын
slateblk1 You are so right. Lisa Torban does only borrow this song. The energy has been sucked from the original and thrown away. This is "nice" and i don't say that as a compliment.
@TransamJc5 жыл бұрын
Peter Wooster lol, you have to think of how it being applied. The reason it is the way it is, it is not as good as the original though for the reason it featured in the documentary is that is applied to the titanic herself. In a way it could be making peace with death.
@SockFullOfCatLitter8 жыл бұрын
It's creepy if I play it in my house when it's only dim, I have coal, wood and rust fragments from the ship. There here sometimes I think.

Adam Harrington there is no doubt that the spirits of those who lost their lives that horrible night are still here with us. watching us. following us. many of them died suddenly and tragically and their spirits can not pass on because they can not understand what happened to them they cant understand how it happened. and they can not understand why did it happen to them ( them dying ) until that time where they can find the answers and pass on to the light their spirits continue to roam this earth unable to pass on. and their spiritual energy is tied to Titanic artifacts. they are what is known as trigger objects. they trigger the spirits of the victims of the Titanic because they feel connected to it one way or another.
