This year so far it’s been horrendous the calls these refs been going with. I hope Adam silver steps in soon because once playoffs are here that bs not gonna fly. Idk if it’s from fan duel or what but it’s just terrible to see. I’ve never seen this many techs be called in a game before. That stupid rule about hanging on the rim needs to go away

while that is true, there is that unwritten rule in basketball. For example, you are already being beat without a doubt, dont score the last bucket before the clock runs out in the 4th. All of NBA does that (normally). Same thing would apply as coaching challenge. I think he just wanted to make a statement, it is unsportsmanlike and his answer is technically noble and not wrong but he knows what he is doing lol

Calling it "garbage time" is already a disrespect from anyone who's not in their position of fighting for minutes, for a small paycheck, or they get cut if they don't put in the effort. They did take the clock violation at the end, they did not celebrate in the opposing team's face, and they took the game seriously until the end, aren't those enough as a sign of respect?

Fr… out of any reason to criticize a coach, it shouldn’t be for being fully engaged with your players regardless if it’s the bench or the starters. I would be a lot more disappointed if he just zoned out and twiddled his thumbs in the 4th quarter whenever there’s a blowout like this. Nobody would call that “bad sportsmanship” which just shows the mentality of many fans that the 2nd unit doesn’t matter and isn’t worth their coach’s full attention

Mazulla's quote after the game “It was a clear opportunity to empower my players and let them know I’m coaching you.” Tatum quote after the game "He mentioned that after the game that those minutes...when we’re up 25, those are just as important for those guys that don’t usually get the opportunity to play. Those minutes matter to them and they matter to us." It's obvious to me that the Celtics see the garbage minutes as valuable minutes for the bench to grow. To do this Mazulla treats the game no different from when he coaches his all stars. If he doesn't treat it seriously how is he going to expect his players to. I honestly respect it and think it's a good perspective to have to develop your lesser players.

if you watched the game leading up to that challenge you'd know why the Raps were pissed. The Raps subbed in their entire bench to sort of waive the white flag and the Celtics kept most of their starters in. The challenge was just the tipping point.
