Yggdrassil is a good comparison, yes. And while the tree is more like yggdrassil, Darksiders leans more heavily to abrahamic religions so I think the tree is meant to be that other tree in Eden. Except it is more like yggdrassil in its function

*SPOILERS* Nefalim exists -> (the 4 become horsemen Comics)-> they kill nefalim -> abaddon schemes a way to start a war, and the first seal is broken -> Darksiders begins: war on earth breaks out between demons,angels and War (the red rider) -> Abaddon becomes the destroyer -> Samael fights the Destroyer and is imprisoned -> Dark Siders 3 happens, and War is killed by the council and sent to the abyss -> Dark Siders 2 happens -> after 100 years in the abyss War is revived by the council -> War is allowed to undo his mistakes and Darksiders 1 continues -> The destroyer is killed and War starts the apocalypse (the final cutscene of darksiders 1).

Gentlemen, the one question that I've been wondering. The outcome of Earth when Death restores Humanity at the end of Darksiders. I mean does Humanity return into a Post Apocalyptic with Demons & Angels still fights, or was it a Reset Button? Any Lore pointing to the conclusion of that event?

So to the best of our knowledge nothing concrete has been said on the results there personally our presumption would be that humanity is reborn into the barren Earth, or maybe the Council moves them back to Eden or something, we don't know. But even though technically Darksiders 1 (War's story) takes place after Death's timeline, to the best of our knowledge nothing has been released since Darksiders 2 that takes place after the events of the game, so we have no information one way or another. Presumably, since humanity was still dead and gone in Darksiders 1, the answers will be revealed in either Strife's game or, (assuming things go the way we want) the game after.

The only thing, unless War "spills the beans & rats out" Azrael. In Darksiders 1, we discovered that everyone believes that Eden was destroyed. However, Azrael "hid it away", only he & certain Angels knew where it was hidden at, that is until he showed it to War.

Odds are saving humanity just means that their souls are kept in safety. I believe they mentioned something about souls being recycled, and I guess death took them out of the recyclebin
