For sure, Dance of December souls is a really unique album... one of my favourites. As for something similar in style.... you should definitely check out one of katatonia's side projects called October tide, Jonas Renkse did vocals on one of their albums and it's some real good shit.

Try early Forgotten Tomb, Black Sun Aeon, Dawn of Solace, October Tide, Ablaze in Hatred and early Autumnblaze (only DammerElbenTragodie is particularly good, but if you like later Katatonia you'll probably like later Autumnblaze too).
