A playthrough of Capcom's 1996 arcade versus-fighter port for the Sony PlayStation, Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors.
Played through as Demitri on the hardest difficulty level, somehow managing to not lose a single match. In all fairness, though, this is among Capcom's easier PS1-era fighter ports - it's even easier than Street Fighter Alpha 2. That having been said, it only really becomes easy once you have a really good handle on the game's mechanics. Button mashing isn't really too effective in this one, unless your aim is to open yourself wide-open to the AI's attacks.
Darkstalkers is just as good (imo) of a series as the Street Fighter series was , and it looks incredible. The arcade version was Capcom's first 'animation-quality' game running on the CPS2 hardware (it was released in mid-1994), predating X-Men: Children of the Atom by nearly six months, and Street Fighter Alpha by nearly a year.
Does anyone else remember their mind being totally blown by this in 1994 in the arcade? Just like SFA, this inspired all sorts of hyperbole to describe the presentation, including "Disney quality". While it's obviously not the same quality as a hand-animated motion picture, it's easy to see why the comparison was made when it's contemporaries (including Super Street Fighter II Turbo) looked so dated in comparison.
Too bad they never made more than the three games in the series (well, besides the 'remix' PSP game). They were really onto something here with all the horror movie monsters.
Finally, it is also fun to note that this game marks the introduction of several characters that became staples in Capcom's later games like Morrigan, and to a lesser extent, Felicia.
*In my previous video of this game, if anyone reading this saw it, I accidentally chopped the entire ending/credit sequence off of the video. This is a brand-new playthrough to replace that one, now with all of the necessary bits intact.
