Very clear explanation of the perspective correction module Bruce, thanks for this. Question: I have bought myself a fish-eye lens and I am trying to correct the bent lines with the lens correction module. But also this is not easily done. Read the online manual, but I do not get it right yet. Could You please do a instruction video on this module? Regards from The Netherlands and thanks a lot for Your clear instructions.

Man i LOVE your videos. They made it possible for me to leave LR and switch to Darktable...and i just love it. Amazing piece of software and no more Adobe prices. I shoot film, but am considering a digital camera but was concerned about Darktable not supporting the specific lens coreections that LR does. It would appear to me that this module solves that problem.
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support! And glad to hear that I helped spring you from AdobeGaol (tm)! :) Yep, darktable is pretty damned powerful. I honestly think it leaves LR for dust.

well done explanation, I'll get a chance to mess with this in a couple of weeks. enjoy your holidays :)

Thank you again for another great explanation of a darktable module. This really helps to clarify the controls of the module. If there is a lot of distortion in the original image, then cropping the image that comes out of this module (to remove the balck areas) can lose a lot of the picture. In Photoshop elements, the free transform function (Ctl + T) provided the possibility of stretching part of the image slightly from any of the corners, to produce an image that fills a rectangle with a more convenient aspect ratio. Does anyone know if darktable has a similar capability?
@audio2u4 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure I addressed that in the video... don't adjust for absolute verticals, just go for partial correction. It's basically the same as what you're describing.
@martinvines35734 жыл бұрын
@@audio2u Not really. What you are describing seems to operate on opposite sides of the shape simultaneously. I am used to being able to also stretch each corner more or less independantly.
@audio2u4 жыл бұрын
Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah, nah, darktable does not offer that kind of pixel-pushing. The only module which DOES any kind of pixel-pushing is the Liquify module, but I don't think that will help a great deal in the way you would like it to. :(

@@audio2u Thank you very much. This sort of help is invaluable with any sort of software. It saves wasting a lot of time looking for features that do not exist. Much appreciated.

13:23 The aspect adjust slider is probably meant for anamorphic lenses.
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Oh, interesting. Can you explain that for me? Not sure what anamorphic lenses do.
@cigno5e55 жыл бұрын
Ehi Bruce, as usual great video, but today it's me suggesting you something ;) did you know that if you drag the crop selection within the image while using "automatic cropping: original format" darktable will shrink or enlarge the crop area, keeping constant ratio and without overflowing the actual image? Pretty handy gimmick in order to don't use the "Crop & rotate" module!!

Is it possible to manually add lines? I'm having an image here with a brick facade, and Darktable does not do a good job at analyzing it.
@audio2u4 жыл бұрын
Not that I'm aware of. But you can turn on your grid view, which places horizontal and vertical lines on your image. These are helpful for aligning things.
@feklee4 жыл бұрын
@@audio2u Thank you! I hope they add such a feature in the future. Aligning with the grid lines I know how to do, but it's cumbersome, especially as Darktable performs quite slowly on my machine (Windows 10, i7, 16GiB).

Trying lens correction for the first time and only find Sharpen and lense correction under dropdown how do I get the perspective dropdown to show up?

Down int he bottom right hand corner, click on "More modules", and activate the modules you want. There are 3 options for every module... visible, visible + favourite, hidden.
