All your videos with the infrared overviews are super helpful for me as a beginner to infrared - thank you for making them!

thank you! DT 4.x has changed/renamed some modules, but it still can be searchable to be used with this video :)

This looks so much easier then using Lr and Ps. And this is a free program. Wow! Thank you for making this

Nice Overview! darktable was always my favorite IR editor. With Version 3.4 it is a little tricky to do the channel swap, but once figured out it is not that big of a deal. ;-)

Your videos are wonderful. There is an update to Darktable so maybe some day you can do another. Please just keep up on the IR video tutorial. I love them.

Thank you! You mentioned in another comment that the channel mixer was gone in darktable. The functionality of the channel mixer has been moved to another module called "color calibration". Search for color calibration in the module list. I will work on a video to cover this change in darktable.

Very nice overview of these interesting features. Is it possible to use a .dcp recipe (from DNG Profile Editor) as in LR or PS to drop the temperature as I've seen recommended as a starting point? Is this necessary with Darktable? Thanks much!
@robshea4 жыл бұрын
It's not necessary to use a DNG profile with darktable, since the White Balance controls have a plenty of range to get a good WB. DNG profiles are only required in LR/PS due to the limited default range of WB controls in Adobe Camera Raw.

@@robshea What would a good starting point be for the WB? Thanks again.
@robshea4 жыл бұрын
@@dondanko8276 It can vary widely depending on the Infrared filter that you are using. Unlike visible light photography, there is no "right" answer. Instead, what I typically do it select a neutral color object in the image to set the WB on, such as clouds, rocks, sidewalk, white objects, etc. You might also be able to set based on grass or foliage.

Well, Golly! Thank You! I have just one question. Exactly what is the IR range nm sensitivity for an unconverted Nikon D850? Is there a place I can find this info?
@robshea3 жыл бұрын
Manufacturers typically do not publish this information, since the cameras are designed to be operated with the hot mirror filter resulting in a more limited range of wavelength sensitivity. It would certainly be interesting to know for full spectrum conversions, but would probably require testing individual cameras.

Hi Bob, did you do anything to the raw file before bringing it in to DT? Thanks Terry
@robshea3 жыл бұрын
Nope, that was a Fujifilm RAF raw file opened directly in Darktable.

Rob, do you know of a replacement for adobe profile editor? It no longer works and it is invaluable for creating IR profiles.
@robshea Жыл бұрын
I am not aware of another way to create DCP files aside from the DNG Profile Editor. I know that it can be troublesome on some systems. I've explored some other methods, but didn't find any good solutions. You can download profiles for many cameras in the Infrared Profile Pack. If a camera is not listed, I can add it. 590.red/infrared-profile-pack
