DARKTIDE - Pre-Release Beta Overview

A new co-op shooter is on the horizon, but how does it hold up? Darktide is in many cases a successor to Vermintide 2, with an updated setting and a larger emphasis on ranged combat.

First things first, welcome back Richard, good to see you alive and kicking again. Now onto the beta. For the progression, its good if a bit slow, unlocking stuff takes a decent amount of time but at the same time i wouldn't call it a grind. Combat is great, gunplay could be better as i don't really like the "recoil is just your gun bouncing around like a trampoline" but it works. As a point coming from vermintide, this game is much more team oriented than it, you need your team and clutching is much harder than it was in vt2, no class has healing in their kit(and only limited healing from feats) but its not horrible if you just think more team minded and less everyone is a steam train of death. Performance is a bit random, some levels run decent and some are quite shit on any system, no matter the hardware. As a point the game is also VERY cpu heavy, you can have a shit gpu and it will run decent but have a bad cpu and you can just dream on. From the classes, haven't played ogre so nothing there, veteran is decent, if you like shooting things go whit him, spyker is wierd, the main mechanic is that you can make heads pop,but the ability is a bit clunky. Zealot is just fine, only problem is the ability can be a bit finicky to get to work sometimes. Weapons selection is good, nothing to complain, they also sound good. Sounds are good if a bit low when the action gets really going. Looks good graphics wise and fits the 40k aesthetic very well. Only really bad part of the beta is really the performance inconsistency and the server dying every now and then, other than those its quite the good game.

as a ogyrn main this is what I can say: you want to be a tank? you want to be a living battering ram? Do you want to kill a horde with ease? pick ogyrn. right now the only class that can pick a shield, a game that the enemy can shoot back at you constantly, you literally become a wall and provide movable cover for a team. most melee weapons have high cleave or mass so one-hit kill for horde mobs or at least knock them back and disable them. the downside is you don't have a lot of good anti-armor weapons, so you face a mauler or scab rager or crusher? you will have a hard time dealing with them. and all of the range weapons are either HMG or shotgun or grenade launchers so you don't have accurate long-range options.

I think a good question many people have in this mind is:"Is this game fun playing alone?" I don't have many friends and the ones I do have don't have much game mobility (they usually stick to one game and don't try other titles). So I am curious if this game is heavy on teamwork/comms to a point that it will be difficult for one to enjoy alone.

The special enemies can be a bit iffy sometime, especially pox hound cause they often jump you even when they are staggered and in the middle of the stagger animation

Missed your content man. Glad to see you back at it. Are you pretty much done playing DRG and KF2? I know I've been really disappointed in KF2's more recent updates but DRG is still going strong imo.

They removed the ability to turn off aim assist when it was an option in the beta back in September and the push should be global like a dome instead of a cone like 95% of my deaths are due to a random enemy ending up behind me and stabbing my ass which is dumb other then that and the hilariously OP special enemies I'd say it's a very fun game but has a loooong way to go before it's as good as vermintide 2.

The Imperium of Man as a whole cannot be characterized as fascist.
