I love the snap of a good natural original casing. I love toasting my buns, yum yum my brother couldn't get the New England style hotdog buns in Michigan so we would mail them, also canned brown bread and bell seasoning. My cousin moved to Arizona and makes her own New England style buns. The red franks remind me of red velvet cake.....lots of dye...

Have you ever tried doing your hot dogs and buns on a cast iron skillet? Just a light toasting on the bun and then fully cook the dog with a little bit of searing on each side. So good!!

I live in MS and never heard of these. We just call franks hot dogs even before they're put on the bun. Actually one of my favorite quick foods when I don't feel like cooking.

Down here in North Carolina we have what we call carolina style hot dog. Yes we have red colored hot dogs (franks). Ours consist of hot dog, bun, ketchup, mustard, chili, onions, and coleslaw. The best darn hot dog you will ever eat. My folks LOVE the 99 cents store and they always buy HOT DOG SPREAD in a little can there, about the size of tomato paste cans. That's all they put on their franks. I keep forgetting to get some when I go. Have you ever tried that?

I can't stand red hot dogs. I love the texture but the flavor is so gross. I'm not sure if it's just the dye that grosses me out or if the flavor is actually different. I can't do it. My dad LOVES them though, they're pretty much his favorite food. Grilled hot dog buns are where it's at though. I say no to any hot dog generally unless it's served on a grilled bun then I'm all about it.
