My one abiding memory of "The Darley Diner" or the "Chequered Flag Cafe" as it now appears to be is of a 14 year old lad who'd just crashed his Aprilia Superteen 125 on the last corner before the finish line. He was sitting on the steps of the dark green Portakabin beating himself up as though it was the worst thing that had ever happened. I tried to console him by saying "cheer up son, we've all done it", as a former Darley member/racer. It didn't seem to have much effect but I'd like to take some credit in the future career of one Cal Crutchlow who went on to achieve things that me and my fellow racers could only dream about.
