I drove a few hundred miles down from Canada last week to see these beautiful young people unfolding their musical love in Seattle. Somehow they knew how far I'd driven, so when they did an a cappella segment in the audience, they formed a circle around my chair. Somehow they knew I would die right then and there if they didn't play this song, so they closed with it. I got up and danced, and the violin player thanked me for dancing afterwards. I mean, how could I not? Please go see them live.

I’ve seen them live four times, once traveling to Boothbay Harbor, Maine from New Jersey. My wife & I specifically planned a Maine vacation because we knew they’d be performing in a converted church that’s been standing since before the Civil War. I tear up almost instinctively when the violin kicks in at the beginning of the song. It’s not as if this is their only great song, either. Seeing them live is about as beautiful and memorable an experience as any lover of music could wish for.

My father was a carpenter My mother, she died young I’m the eldest of my brothers You’re the trouble in my blood Trouble in my blood I swore that I’d stay humble Like my father was before He built the home I live in Of sand and mud and smoke Sand and mud and smoke Yes, we will leave here without a trace Take a new name and an old shape I’ll be no outlaw, no renegade Just your faithful god of loss So meet me by the river On a boat-shaped piece of earth We press our bones together And the spider does its work With flakes of garlic And petals from a rose If it’s small enough to carry You and I can call it home You and I can call it home Yes, we will leave here without a trace Take a new name and an old shape I’ll be no outlaw, no renegade Just your faithful god of loss

I heard the song about six years ago and have had the band bring me to tears seeing it played live, but I never grasped the entirety of the song’s tragic nature until just recently reading “The God of Small Things”. Cry not only for Velutha, but Estha, Rahel and Ammu. One of the most painfully beautiful novels I’ve ever read.

Just saw them in person last night in San Francisco. I know it doesn't seem possible, after seeing this video. But they are even more beautiful in person. See them if you can. They are on tour right now. Their new album is gorgeous. They are gorgeous human beings. So clear when you see them in person... Innocence.

This is such a powerful song. The imagery of our experiences in life being etched into us, and then how the two at the end hold and comfort each other through everything. Honestly I'm making it sound dumb, but the end is so beautiful that it hurts.
@chrisd3674
@chrisd3674 10 ай бұрын
I don't think that sounds dumb at all. I think anybody who is capable of self-reflection and even remotely likes this kind of music would 100% agree. Reminds me of Stable Song and Holocene. Songs that feel like they were written at the end of somebody's well-lived life

Bearded Servant : I had the incredible privilege of vacationing in Maine this past week and attending one of the truly transcendent concerts I’ve ever seen - Darlingside at a small opera house in Boothbay Harbor. At least three times during the show, involuntary tears streaked my face because what my wife and I were witnessing was magical. I felt so grateful to have been there. As kismet would have it, I struck up a conversation with a gentleman sitting behind me with his wife and parents about our mutual love of the band when he tells me he licensed THIS very song for a documentary he created called “Walking Home”. Yes, it was Ryan Leighton, the creative mind and producer of one of the finest documentaries ever about the Appalachian Trail. The entire series of events which led me to the concert and our subsequent meeting Mr. Leighton felt fortuitous and he and his wife were truly gracious in speaking with us. I’ve watched the first half of “Walking Home” and am starting to think I’d like to begin hiking on a small scale. I know hiking the entire trail is beyond consideration for me at this point, but I’d enjoy a regular walk in the woods, hills or mountains. Good Luck to your quest to conquer the Trail and stand atop Mount Katahdin.

I came across Darlingside on NPR Tiny desk playing this song. To find a treasure this rare is incredibly special. That musicians can still write such powerful lyrics is really awe inspiring. And than to find how this video was made is simply the "cherry on the cake" as they say. It's simply beautiful in it's simplicity.

To me; it's the "big picture"; the story of man's struggle, healing, and re-growth; only possible by faith in "the guy drawing the story"; God. I love it when God puts down his pen and allows peace time for healing before writing in their growth patterns. And when the mans hand reaches for the sky; as if reenacting Michelangelo's Creation. The double stops on those strings bound directly to my soul; such soothing sounds!

I have an 8 year old daughter. I have not seen her since she was 5. I never abused or neglected her in any way. I am a #TargetedParent in a high conflict custody battle, which means, I was attacked in court by a wealthy and vindictive ex. He has a lawyer and I didn’t; he has over 100k to spend building a case against me and I didn’t. I did not have the means to defend myself against these attacks and so I have been wrongfully separated from my daughter under the guise that this is “in her best interest” when in fact this is a form of domestic violence known as parental alienation, which occurs when one parent misuses and weaponizes the legal system in order to cut the other parent out of their child’s life in order to punish them for the relationship failing. It has nothing to do with what is in the child’s best interest, it is enacted purely out of spite, vindictiveness and a desire for revenge. Some of the things that have been used against me during this #custodybattle include: breastfeeding, letting my daughter skip pre-school, letting her go outside on a windy day, letting her stand on the sofa next to me, telling her I miss her, reading her a children’s book (I will explain that one in a separate post.) You get the picture. I am not a perfect person, or mom, there is no such thing. But I am not a danger to my child. If you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in our broken legal system you can build a case against anyone for anything. I also went to jail for requesting to see my daughter, and for texting the father of my child that we should have a truce. I know that sounds insane, so I have included a picture of the warrant for my arrest. I am telling the truth. I am not hiding anything. I have signed over my HIPAA rights to my ex and the courts so that they could read my entire medical records, (including years of therapy and psychological and psychiatric evaluations. The courts ordered me to have these evaluations, but then they would not accept my clean bill of mental health. This happens to people a lot, I have learned. I have no mental illness; although my mental state is being used against me in court anyway, I am having a normal human reaction to being separated from my child) I did this so that they could see I’m not hiding anything. It’s probably illegal for the courts to pressure me to do that, but no one regulates custody battles so illegal things happen in family court everyday, and basic human rights are violated. I’m trying to change that. Also, BIPOC families suffer disproportionately, so I want to use my #whitepriveledge here for good. I am working on a series of videos detailing everything I’ve learned about America’s broken justice system over the past 6 years. I won’t remain silent while my daughter and I are tortured by my ex, his family, and the state of NJ. It is not possible for me to fight multi millionaires in a corrupt family court system, because the system was designed to keep the rich in power. And since my ex father in law is the President and CEO of #TheActorsFund he is very wealthy and powerful and has a lot of connections in NJ. I can’t possibly defend myself in court against them, but that doesn’t mean I am a bad mom or that I don’t deserve to see my daughter. If this seems “crazy” to you, please keep in mind that I am a human being who has been separated from my child for almost 4 years. As a result I am suffering from c-ptsd. My goal is to raise awareness about this form of child abuse, and to help other victims. I am not “playing the victim” I am standing up for my daughters basic human rights. She has the right to know and love both sides of her family, and she is being denied those rights. I tag celebrities who support The Actors Fund because I think they have a right to know where their money is going, and I am also hopeful to find a celebrity advocate. Over the years I have been issued gag orders by the court, and coerced into signing a non-disclosure agreement to protect me ex father in law, #JoeBenincasa’s name. It was never my intention to harm his image, but I won’t be silenced anymore either. If my ex husband would drop his case and let me see my daughter I wouldn’t be doing this. I love my daughter with all of my heart and I want us to be reunited, which is also what she wants but her voice is not being heard. I want to be heard, I’m done being silenced. Millions of #AlienatedParents are good people, good parents, functioning members of society who work hard and pay our child support payments. We deserve to be in our children’s lives. Please feel free to share. #FamilyCourt #AvaBenincasa #ParentalAlienation #BreakTheSilence #SpeakUp #ChildrenNeedBothParents #parentalalienationischildabuse.
