Alpacas do guard. Farmer Friend had sheep in big fox area. Only ever had 50 to 70 % lambing. Daughter at agricultural college got an alpaca as a school project which they kept. Put it with one of their mobs of sheep and ended up with 110% lambing. Convinced the sceptical and ended up with two with each mob.
@songbyrdha4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don’t know where he gets that Alpacas aren’t guardians. A lot of people use them to guard sheep. Just ask Australian sheep farmers!! Alpacas are ideal guardians to animals like sheep and goats because they need the same basic nutritional requirements, along with de-worming, and vaccination protocols. It makes management easier on both large ranches and small farms alike. Alpacas are closely related to llamas, so it makes good sense. Alpacas have actually been known to stomp coyotes, foxes, and wild dogs to death. They’re included in the term “guard llama”, so maybe that’s where the confusion lies. 🤷🏼♀️.
@susannesteele5354 жыл бұрын
Yes I am Australian. The only downside is when herding sheep you have to let them do the herding or they will stomp your sheepdog, lol.

Had a friend with a pair of harness donkeys and a pair of mules. They owned a huge cut flower business. The packing shed was at the bottom of a huge hill. The flowers were growing at the top. A long way away. They would send the donkeys or mules up the hill to find mum, she would fill the waggon with flowers and send them back to the packing shed. The workers thought it was hilarious.

Almost all donkeys have a cross on their back; they have a dorsal stripe running down from the poll (between the ears) to the tip of their tail. The "cross" is a perpendicular line through the dorsal stripe across the withers and down over the shoulders. Donkeys were portrayed in Biblical works as symbols of service, suffering, peace and humility. They are also associated with the theme of wisdom in the Old Testament story of Balaam's ass, and are seen in a positive light through the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. Legend tells us that the donkey that carried Jesus into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday followed Him to Calvary. Appalled by the sight of Jesus on the cross, the donkey turned away but could not leave. It is said that the shadow of the cross fell upon the shoulders and back of the donkey.

The Disney artists based their illustrations of ‘Donkey’ in Shrek from the real-life miniature donkey, named Perry, who lives at the Cornelius Bol Park, in the Barron Park neighborhood, in Palo Alto, CA. They arrived for a few days of photographing, filming, drawing, and just generally watching his behavior. He’s very sweet.
