It’s absolutely adorable how psyched you are to try them! I love seeing people excited about little details in something they’re passionate about. I hope you enjoyed dancing in them! 💜

I use dental floss to darn my shoes😂

that's really interesting, because that's what a lot of punks use to sew patches onto battle jackets/trousers! it's much cheaper and stronger than sewing floss

Maybe you could put on a darn shoe on one foot and a normal shoe on the other foot to see which one is better. 🤔

That’s actually not a great idea, that could potentially affect balance and stability. Lori is professional but generally you want your feet to feel as similar as possible so movements come naturally versus having to think and compensate for differences.

Would this maybe make more of a difference for shoes with teensy platforms? Or is it purely personal prefrence?

It reminds me of the time I went to see Anna Pavlova’s pointe shoes at the Newberry Library in Chicago . They were amazing. I wonder how you would like them if you could dance in them ?
@sofiah44
@sofiah44 Ай бұрын
i’d say it would because you can use it to create more surface area and a flatter tip of the shoe, which makes it much easier to balance (in my experience)

You can use beeswax on the thread and a lite in the centre of the tip

Does it negatively affect turns?
@ThatWeirdo04
@ThatWeirdo04 Ай бұрын
It’s going to add more friction during turns, which could be either positive or negative depending on the individual dancer

Ballet is so ghastly for feet! I'd never let my kid take Ballet!😢
@KateCarew

That’s too bad, it’s really great for kids. There’s a lot of built in discipline and structure. People who do ballet are often successful at other things in life because they learned so many valuable lessons during their training. You learn how to accept criticism, how to push yourself to maximize potential, how to cooperate, how to function within a group to achieve a common goal, I mean…there’s a LOT. However, if your child hates it after a year it’s not a good fit. But I do think it’s an excellent skill to try for all kids. They learn to listen, and be respectful as well. Ballet teachers aren’t just teaching plies and pirouettes…they teach manners inadvertently because ballet requires a certain politeness. Any artistic discipline tends to have the same outcome though, but with music classes there’s not as much of a team dynamic. Tap classes are pretty structured as well but there’s not as much emphasis on decorum. I just know a LOT of former dancers and for the most part there’s a streak of wanting to do the best, getting along with others, and having a balanced ego that I see. You get humbled enough and have to get back up and dance you develop a sense of self without being cocky, it’s a nice disposition.

Although I do agree in that pointe shoes are damaging to feet, you can have a lot of fun with ballet without ever going on pointe. I started ballet when I was a toddler , and I only got my first pair of pointe shoes a few months ago, almost twelve years later. Ballet has been such an amazing experience for me, and has really built up my flexibility and strength, as well as my discipline and work ethic. It’s also just so much fun and a great activity to do casually!

In this you say Wlliam Carrey's wife was 13, but I paused and read the article and it says she was "6 years his SENIOR", making her 6 years older than him, making her 25. At that time in England 13 would have been odd. The marriage act of 1753 made the age of marriage 21, any younger and you needed parental consent (I'm looking up right now what the minimum age was with parental consent, but my guess was it was at the lowest 12-14, as previously it had been 12 for girls and 14 for boys without parental consent. Back then the age of majority was 21. So even before 1753 it would have been an underage marriage). So William Carrey needed parental permission from HIS parents to marry his wife, who was over 21.

I mean, feet do sweat, and this is an intense sport. So yes, ballet shoes will collect an odor. You replace them as needed, and since they’re around $100 a pair you can’t just discard them unless they’re dead. Most shoes are made of wooden supports so washing isn’t an option. There is a brand gaynor minden that has a plastic shank and “can” be washed but the adhesives still break down so it’s not really advised. It’s just part of the deal. That’s why you shower afterwards.

@@KateCarew I wonder if it's material they're made of, I didn't know feet sweat, I'm indigenous, we don't have foot sweat, it's part of our blood line, that's one reason we can hunt, on foot, for months on end and we can run for days straight
