most singers/artists get famous after much money and time is invested into them with media, marketing, and distribution deals that they trade for their own rights and oftentimes heavy commitments

I saw Darrell Scott this past July. Front row, center. He played this one. I melted in my seat and all I could say was "Dang". I have never seen anyone squeeze so much sound out a guitar, not to mention a voice that defies gravity. When the concert was over he went to the product table and met people like an old fashion Baptist preacher. He talked to everyone who waited in line to see him. He was just the sweetest most humble man.

Darrell Scott is a musical genius. Through his haunting yet inviting voice and beautiful guitar work, Scott weaves layered and emotional stories. He will take you on a journey that leaves you wanting more, or at least another listen. Some journeys are happier than others but they are always worth it. He accomplishes this (often) difficult task while respecting his audience, unlike so many artists today. It is crazy how talented this man is. I hope more people experience his masterful storytelling and musician prowess. Thank you, Mr. Scott. Thank you. I look forward to seeing you play in person, one day.

Such simple chord shapes! But between the timing of switches and the strumming technique, this one is proving to be a surly little bugger to nail down! Just ask my brain and fingers😆 I really hope this is not one of those ones that takes me so long to nail im sick of it by the time I do. Don't think so though, this piece is a really interesting story.

It's been rainy and windy for seven days straight I've been going to bed early and getting up late I look out my window and it's one shade of gray My wife and my kids don't have much to say A man out of work only gets in the way Oh, the river is rising now one inch an hour And tonight we'll be lucky if we still have power But I've got a flashlight, an oil lamp and I'm ready to go And a fresh set of batteries for my son's radio If the dam really breaks, least we'll know where to go River take me, river take me River take me far from troubled times River take me, river take me River take me far from troubled times If I had a boat you know what I'd do I'd float me and my family down to Baton Rouge I wouldn't work in no factory, I'd live off the land And live within means of my own two hands Dance Saturday nights to a Zydeco band Oh, the river flows and a young man dreams And the river can drown you or it can wash you clean It can take you away to some other place It can power your cities, carry your waste And give all that you drink, a peculiar taste Oh, don't look to me, I've done my time You see, I've had too many dreams for this one heart of mine And I've stood on the bridge with the river below Feeling all of the sadness that a proud man could hold Oh, the river is full but there's no way to go River take me, river take me River take me far from troubled times River take me, river take me River take me far from troubled times

This song speaks to me deep inside my heart an soul! Beautiful song. I've always been an artist myself. I sing , write poems stories songs, take pictures, work with clay. I've always been a story teller an have had soul & wisdom beyond my years. I'm a cancer survivor an have been faced with death many times in 30 years of life. An i wouldn't go back in time to change a thing. Sometimes you were meant to fall on your face in order to rebuild yourself better than before. God is always there for you even if you don't acknowledge him. For many years I let my emotional an physical pain win but no more. I would be better than before. I made up my mind to learn how to play the guitar so I'm starting to look out for a lefty acoustic that I can afford. Then I will record an put up videos of my own songs that I've written. Thank you Darrell Scott for your music an inspiration. One of the first songs I'm going to learn on the guitar is this one.

JerodimusPrime It's a very fundamental guitar (little overtones). The tone around 0:40-0:45 is almost haunting. Sounds great! Not that guitars with a lot of overtones don't sound good, but that guitar is really good at what it does.
