The production quality on this song is unbelievable. Those "Minnesota" style Prince-esque Funk Bass guitar licks, the drum kit, that phenomenal keyboard solo, the vocals. And all performed by minors! That's mind-blowing. This song still slaps HARD, some 37 years later. 80's Babies, stand up!

@RocStarr9133 жыл бұрын
They never became popular enough to become household names despite their hit singles. There were many different factors: there was clear bias against their ethnicity from some record buyers, their sound, which was fairly derivative, had become dated very quickly, and the kind of music that was popular had changed by the end of the decade and the band’s sound had already fallen dramatically out of fashion by then. They also had turned down songs that became hit singles for other performers like Milli Vanilli’s “Blame It On The Rain” and Selena’s “Dreaming Of You.”

This song was SO underrated - liked this SO MUCH MORE than "Crush On You", but that's how it, usually, is with the songs that I prefer (they are the songs least preferred by the mainstram) ..Minneapolis artists kept it funky in the 80s, when many R&B artists outside of hip hop became afraid to get too funky (I hear that "Erotic City" bassline) ..this song, and "Rockit 2 U" are my favs from this group

Very much so. What is considered by most to be "The 80's" really happened in 83, and blew up in 84, which I consider to be the most pivotal and epitomal year of the 80's. Bright neon and fluorescent colors ruled from 83-87. 87-88 saw a transition to jeans, then leather by 88-89. 88-89, the colors were white and black. Lots of black. 1989, Black was what you saw everyone wearing. Black leather jackets everywhere. 90-91 saw a return of some of the colorful vibrant energy of the mid-80's, bleeding into 92, which blew up into the psychedelic look of early Rave style. Grunge was also huge, which was stripped down casual wear. Jeans, T-shirt, flannels. From 94 -99 things just got progressively more minimal and black until you got to The Matrix look.
