Cal Kestis is acually a canon character, he was made so by Disney at April 25th of 2014, and Star Wars Jedi : Fallen Order takes place somewhere around 14 BBY, while survivor takes place somewhere in 9 BBY. Also yes, Cal was around when Luke was alive, since he was around his Teenage years when Luke Skywalker was born into the world.

So this game takes place before the original trilogy, so this is One of the few jedi's that actually survived before Luke came Around to be a jedi.

To sorta give context without spoiling _too_ much, this is a sequel to the game "Jedi: Fallen Order". "Fallen Order" was about Cal Kestis, a Jedi who was only a Padawan when Order 66 hit and was forced into hiding after his Master is killed. As the game progresses, you basically get to learn how to properly handle the Force and become a Jedi Knight alongside him as he's pushed into the fray by being discovered. "Survivor" takes place a while after the first, where Cal has now become a force to be reckoned with, and is one of the Empire's most wanted. The story is about him discovering that there's an ancient Jedi Temple on a Planet hidden in a dangerous Nebula, and hoping to use it as a safe haven for surviving Jedi and other fugitives/refugees trying to escape the Empire, all while he's being actively hunted. Both games are canon, but relatively far removed from the films other than a couple cameos/appearances.

Fallen Order takes place in 14BBY (5 years after order 66) while Survivor takes place in 9BBY (a decade afte order 66). He fights vader and loses against him in Fallen Order.
