I live here in Hawaii and just found one in my house. Freaked me out because I've never seen one here until now! Did some research and found your video. I found the green/black

Very cool video. I live on Maui and I heard there’s a population of dart frogs here as well. Thanks for making this!

This is pretty cool. I saw someone on reddit had a picture of one in their backyard in Hawaii. Really cool to see examples of them in broms and stuff!

Thanks! Yeah I hear that the people that have bromeliads in their yard have tons of them, like a little sanctuary.

I just saw one a week ago. Hawaii has such aim intense concentration of endemic animals here and such a fragile ecosystem because of how isolated it is, we’ve lost so many animals already and so many more that we didn’t even know of before they died off.

Wow, fantastic video. The scenic views were amazing. Glad you found the frogs. Any day geckos?

My Theory: The dart frogs are not eating enough mosquito due to stress, Hawaii really needs to add some more leaf litter to keep that substrate off the frogs and maybe they will do their job.
@LVGmemphis105 жыл бұрын
Ikr, is Hawaii even bioactive?
@TCSDartFrogs5 жыл бұрын
There was plenty of leaf litter lol

My theory: They should have released tree frogs instead, considering mosquitoes live on the trees. Or bats.

Thats awesome. Are the poisonous in the wild in Hawaii or only in the amazon + central America?

It's so humid there they could probably survive almost anywhere, I know quite a few people have them in their yard/garden.

@@TCSDartFrogs im still lerning about them. Im not sure how tosetup thier new enclosure. Do the falsebottom is nessesery? Or waterfall? I have 4 of them and i wish for tadpols. :)
@TCSDartFrogs4 жыл бұрын
@@MyWhiteee While a false bottom isn't necessary it is very beneficial, water features are not necessary and in many cases should be avoided until you have more experience as they can lead to many problems.

@@TCSDartFrogs for the bottom i was planing to use "kermazyt" (waterballs) then charcol and then substrate. I have terrarium 50/50 and 100cm high. Do you think its good for costa ruca auratus species? Btw thanks alot :).

I don't know if anyone has tested them. I was talking with one of the Aboretum staff and they said that they were not poisonous in Hawaii but I don't know if that is true or not.

I can't find the answer. Is it legal to own them there? You can't import or export, but to have them in possession as pets?

Nice images of some of the wild individuals here. I'd like to correct a few facts. 1) (Dendrobates auratus) from Tobaga Island, Panama were intentionally and legally released by an entomologist to a single location on Oahu, Island that was reforested with exotic plant-species in 1932. Yeah, so they have been present oh Oahu for 88 years, that's a long time! - and they have not naturally spread that far - possibly occupying a range of two square miles (generous estimation) out of 597 sq. miles that is Oahu. That's a tiny range in 88 years. About 200 specimens were originally released in 1932...so it could be said that that the Oahu population represents the Tobaga Isl. morph. 2) (Dendrobates auratus) are NOT found "all over Oahu" they have an extremely small range because they require very high rainfall areas. 3) recently (Dendrobates auratus) has been in the wild on Maui Island. 4) It is illegal to transport or sell this species according to the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. Simple internet searches can provide verification of these facts. 5) (Dendrobates auratus) are reported to be much less poisonous on Oahu because the prey species that they consume to sequester the toxins are not present in Hawaii.
