This scene sparked an interesting theory for me. that is, the demogorgons are not inherently evil. They have this hive intelligence and all act as a pack, generally. the shadow monster is connected to them. They are hosts and victims as much as humans are. Dart chose a tiny nougat bar over several juicy humans. Why? It has some significance to him, mentally. It brought back his "childhood" memories. I think as a baby he did like Dustin. He trusted him and eagerly crawled onto his hand on more than one occasion. The nougat bar was able to allow him just once to overpower the shadow monster's control over him. and obviously, they can grow up without meat just fine. The shadow monster is what turns them into feral beasts, but in nature, they are much like our own dogs.

And to add on, it's not like we see the other Demo-dogs disappear or anything they only fell and Dart didn't disappear but he was laying without any movement. Didn't care that much for Dart, but Dustin's final words to it got to me hard. There was a stray cat outside of my work place that many of us helped take care of for a long time. I'd always say "hey buddy" or "see yah buddy" after I finally befriended him. He suffered from renal failure though and we decided to put him down after a while of him not eating. My last words to him was "goodbye buddy." This happened less than a month before season 2 was released.

There was once a demon dog named Dart. He fell in love with nougat. But the friend who gave him the delicious candy stopped giving to him after Dart ate Mews. Dart felt betrayed. He felt like his human friend no longer cared for him. So when Dart’s master promised revenge and all the nougat Dart could eat, he just couldn’t say no. But in the end, Dart chose his friend over his master, proving that love is stronger than any candy.

Out of all the monster’s from The Upside Down , Dart is the only likeable one and the only one who learned how to have emotion’s , he spared Dustin and his friend’s cause he remember’s how Dustin took care of him , sure he did eat his cat but he only did it cause he was hungry , he got bigger so he needed biger food. I love Dart.

I knew that he is bad but i also knew that he will be good to them because Dustin took care of him. He was such a lovely creature tbh. Maybe he ate a cat and was bad but at the end he recognized Dustin and he let them go. Also i was soooo sad when they showed him dying with that candy next to him... i really wish that he’ll be back ;-;

First I was like "aw he is cute", then I was like "naah", but omg. This was so sad, sadder than Bob's death (I feel cruel for saying that). It was so sad and I feel weird from crying, ahahha, because he is like a demon dog, but all he wanted was Dustin's nougat :'( And I didn't even cry when Dart ate the cat and I LOVE cats! (But that was because I actually thought it was a dog in the start, because it was so big, but my sister was like "nah, it's a cat..", but then I was really sad, because it was so fluffy and fat.. I think if I would've known it was a cat in the start and even Dustin's cat I might have cried :/ R.I.P Mew Mew

Dart is so cute he didn’t deserve to die. Dart had predator instincts but Dustin treated him well and cared for him. It’s like a tiger. Yeah a tiger would eat but if you treat them from a baby they wouldn’t wanna directly attack you because you’ve cared for them their entire life. Dart really wasn’t bad or evil. He was like a animal and he was just glad he got to spend time with the person who took care of him before he dies. He could easily attacked them or go with the rest of the demodogs but no. Dart was really a true bro
