It is WILD that Maul went from being known for pretty much never speaking to now being celebrated for his monologues

"Formerly Darth, now just Maul." is a line from Rebels that I feel sums up his character arc pretty well. Bonus points given Maul is probably still the title Sidious gave him and not his actual birth name. For all his growth beyond being just a tool of the Sith, he still ends up falling into the same pitfalls, and it all ends with him coming completely full-circle. For the better, but still ending badly. Trying to grow past the things that left him broken, only to just pivot from being driven by revenge against Kenobi to revenge against Sidious, and then ending up back where he was when he was first broken down, chasing after Kenobi again. And this time it ends, and he dies in his first enemy's arms with an actual sense of closure.

I would like to point out that when he dies his eyes actually lose most of the Sith corruption, and return to a tranquil green for a moment. The only time he felt truly relieved of his hatred was in his last moments.

I always thought that last line was him coming close but still not quite getting it, still concerned with revenge rather than just focusing on the hope.

I never realized it until your breakdown, but Obi Wan beat Maul by trolling him. Which is also how he beat Vader. I think OB1 found a power greater than The Force. The Troll!

Maul is a great example how to make an awesome and memorable character from basically nothing. And it's not the only character from the Clone Wars they managed to create from basically nothing. Ahsoka and Rex are examples as well. Who would have thought that this annoying little brat introduced in the clone wars would end up becoming one of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars.

Something slightly underrated about that final scene of maul is how easily he reads kenobi. He does know kenobi, understands him and is still too driven by hate to read his stance

Why you gotta dis my mans like that so casually 😂 Let’s be honest here, if you were face-to-face with the literal personification of evil in Star Wars whose likened by George Lucas to The Devil himself, just like Maul was here… You’d piss your pants too. 😅 It’s worth noting that when Maul was begging for Sidious to kill him he was actually asking him to kill him and give him a quick-death since he knows how terrifying Sidious can be. Excellent analysis on Maul’s character as well as his evolution through the Star Wars series. Really liked how you touched upon the parallels between Kenobi and Maul’s upbringing and journey as well as how Kenobi learned to let go of his hate and not respond to the pull of the Dark-Side while Maul couldn’t stop letting his Hatred could his judgment and became lost in an endless fog of misery and suffering. Only freeing himself when accepting the Light for the First and Last time by acknowledging Kenobi’s hope in Luke. “He will *Avenge* Us.” Amazing Introspection on Darth Maul. 👏 You really did well to examine and detail all the time and effort put into resurrecting Maul’s character, as well as the Praisworthy work from Sam Witner and Ray Park into giving him life. Great work on this video, and May the Force be with you.

I Remember the first time i watched the OG trilogy, it was the weekend of the release of the phantom menace. This along with seeing the first prequel the very weekend after watching 4,5 and 6 with my dad are a vivid memory when i was three years old back in 99, in fact i believe that the weekend i watch all 4 of these movies are formative memories now since, I love Star Wars the good and the bad.

Duel of the fates is a good name for the song. The fates of Anakin Skywalker of light and dark If Qui-Gon jin lived, Anakin would've become the greatest, most powerful and internally balanced character in starwars. After all Qui-Gon was more of a father figure to Anakin, Obi-wan was more of a brother more than anything. If Qui-Gon died, Anakin would be taken by Chancellor Palpatine who became a Father figure to Anakin, leading to the events of Darth Vader
