Dartmoor WILD CAMP | Fur Tor | Naturehike Vik 1 | Sawyer Mini filter

An unseasonably hot and sunny 18 mile round walk to experience some of the more remote parts of Dartmoor. This trip also gave me an opportunity to try out my new Sawyer Mini water filter, and to break out my Naturehike Vik 1 tent for only its third use. I had never been to this part of Dartmoor before, and quickly learned why you don't see anyone walking out there! These warmer temperatures have got me thinking about the best ways to reduce the weight of my kit in the warmer months, and I'd like to be able to get my pack down from 15-16 kg (winter weight) to around 12 kg max once things warm up properly. Thank you for the kind comment, Si. Some parts of Dartmoor are easy-going, flat grass, but that terrain last week was anything but! But I did like that it was devoid of almost anything with a pulse - it was truly peaceful. The Wayfarer pud went down a treat! 😉

I really enjoyed that video mate. I have never considered Fur Tor but after that video it is on my list. I liked the woods bit where you were being watched and the cooking time lapse. Amazing night scenes too. You need to teach the magic art of clicking your fingers for tent pitching 😀

Nice video. I havent watched all your videos, black a tor copse is quite special. A few miles from car park. My friend swears its 2/3 but am sure its 8/9 ... could be the terrain though. Last time I was there was december 2019 it was minus 2 camped on a bog.

Thanks. I camped up at Black Tor last month, up above Black-a-Tor copse. I just checked my Strava data and it was 2.98 miles back to the car park from Black Tor, dropping down via Black-a-Tor copse. I bet that was an atmospheric camp on a cold December night down there!

Very nice and enjoyable video. I'm new to your channel and this one is my first viewing. Fur Tor is on my list, as I'm a bit of a Tor bagger and have 'summitted' 94 Tors to date. I'm more of a day backpacker than wild camper, but Fur Tor looks doable in a day 😅. My approach would probably be from the Hare Tor side. I know the terrain is a mix of everything, and marsh/bag hopping is par for the course! 😂You definitely got the weather right for your trip. Where did you head back to on your return hike - was it back towards Yes Tor & High Willhays? Many thanks, Pete

Hello Pete, and welcome! It sounds like you're not stranger to the tors, and I'm sure you'll enjoy Fur Tor. I walked there from just beyond Fernworthy Reservoir, going via Sittaford Tor and Cut Hill. The return walk was via Black Hill and Hangingstone Hill. Neither route was exactly quick or easygoing, but perhaps you can find a less arduous route up there! Thanks for watching 😊
