Pro tip: take the old points out of all 3 barrels before you start putting in the new ones, then check by hand that your new points will fit into the barrels(if they don't, its easier to put the old points back if 1 is already in the vice section). You may find that the first point you pick up is too small for the first barrel you try, one of the remaining 2 points should still fit, repeat with the remaining 2 barrels and points. Once you know which new point will go with which barrel, begin repointing.

right on, the first set of new points i tried to put in were all too small for the barrels i was trying to put them in, fortunately they fit in the storm 2s, that 10-15 minutes of trouble shooting was pretty stressful, hopefully it might spare someone a similar experience...another excellent review

Great review Darren really like the simplistic of this repointer! Although I agree with you in respect of collecting lots of darts and not really wearing points out I do think it's handy to have a tool for re pointing. For any dart player it's essential in a way. Really do like the look of this one..

The only thing I don't like about this tool is that the carriage that hold the dart and slide up and down really digs into your hand. especially when the point is really tightly kept in the dart. Also I would use some sort of thread locker to fill the gap if you can just press the point in with out using the Allen wrench. in my experience the points that do go in like that will come out, often in the board. I love this too tho. Got it down to 5-10 mins to change a set of points.

Yeah it can be a little harsh on the hands if its a very tight point, I would wrap a cloth round it when that happens.

I also bought a repointer. once you did twenty years with a point, now only one season. I need to drive 90km for repoint, or I have to send the darts and hope I have the darts back in time or worse they are damaged.
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 7 жыл бұрын
The only points I have ever broke are the ones with grip cut into them. All others have been fine. Try the Voks Tornado points they are tough but they dont fit all barrels, sometimes they may be too small but in your case that may not be such a bad thing as they would be easier to replace you would just need a small dab of super glue if the hole is too big.
@a.v.k.2852

Only smooth long zilverpoints, no knurl, grip, storm or tornado points for me, a piece of zandpaper is enough to get the points rough. And thanks to the Unicorn gripper4 shafts, the gripper2 shafts are cheap :-)

so repointing points does not really need glue?? im just curious, does it not get loose after repointing?
@DartsReviewChannel

usually nothing is needed as it is a interference fit, meaning basically its such a tight fit it stay put. But some barrels may need a dab of glue if the hole is too big for the point.

Trying to wrap my head around how the tip is able to just stay in the barrel. It the recieving hole in bareel appered so the tip is just pinched in place? I have a broken tip on a cosmo dart right at the barrel. been soaking in vinegar for a week with little result. Im wondering if i try to drill it out , will i destroy the barrel? Cheers
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 6 жыл бұрын
I think its called inference fit or some such word, basically its just held in place by the tightness of the hole. Sometimes the points can be too big or too small for the hole though. I would not drill your point out unless you have a very steady hand, you could make the hole too big, but if you are keen to give it a try and you do make it too big you can always add some super glue or loctite to the hole before putting new point in.

I used alum when the point on my new Barney’s broke right next to the barrel. It worked great, removed the entire point and didn’t hurt the finish on the barrel. I used a small oven proof glass bowl in a stainless pan to make sure I didn’t ruin the pan. It was a double boiler sort of affair. I covered the pan to keep the heat in, and used a low boil/high simmer. It took several hours but now I have my Barney’s back.

+Darts Review Channel well my main point of concern would be the point not being in straight. I remember seeing this with Wright's dart before, but that was a needle point.
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 8 жыл бұрын
yeah just line it up in the notch and make sure its lined up with the hole before fully tightening, it should go in straight if the hole in the barrel is straight but if your worried then best to send them to get re-pointed to a shop, but I don't think you will have a problem, I used one years ago and never had any problems and there is lots of others that use them :)

Darts Review Channel I've left mine in the bag it came in in the garage and it just rusted over. I use the Unicorn points that Anderson and Barney use with the grippy part at the barrel end and the silver grippy parts have rusted too. It's odd because they're the only things that have ever rusted in the garage
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 7 жыл бұрын
I have had some points on some darts get rust spots not long after buying them and sometimes they have not even been out the box, not really sure what causes it unless its some problem from where they came from originally, may be they were stored somewhere damp before I got them and then the rust slowly built up but cant say for sure?

Hi Darren! Just repointed my first set of darts which are Target Adrian Lewis Gen4s with Target Diamond Pro 36mm points and I have a question. How do you know that you "screwed" the point enough into the barrel? Because I am afraid that I somehow did it too much and the newly fitted points are not that much longer than the standard points with which the darts came in (which are fairly short). Is it somehow possible to do this wrong and is it possible that I screwed the point into the barrel too much - and if yes, would they still be possible to remove? Of course, you use in the video points where you can clearly see where you should stop screwing them in but the standards flat points do not have anything like this... Thank you for your answer and help! :)
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 3 жыл бұрын
usually it will only go in so far, when it wont go no more then thats it. Its not the same for each brand though, could be as little as 4mm to 6mm or even more, so when you put new points in so much of it will be inside the hole but may be a different amount on other darts. You could compare the previous points and put a mark on them and see how they compare, should be ok to take them out again if needed.
@11Paks
@11Paks 3 жыл бұрын
@@DartsReviewChannel Thanks for your answer and insight, Darren! The thing is that when I finished installing them (the Target 36 mm Diamond Pro points), they were not much longer that the original short points (there was 1-1,5mm difference) and I just didn't feel it was right. So I decided to ask. And in the meantime, I pulled the new points a little from the barrel which made the outside part be of approximately 30mm which is, as far as I am concerned, appropriate with the points of this length (36mm). Thank you again very much for your help.
@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 3 жыл бұрын
@@11Paks As long as they are not loose it should be fine, but you can put some Loctite in to hold it secure if needed or even super glue :)
@11Paks
@11Paks 3 жыл бұрын
@@DartsReviewChannel Thanks again for the answer, Darren! I just checked it and think that after pulling the points out a little bit it is ok. Both the former and the new points are in the barrel with approximately 6mm of their length. And also the new points are fitted in the barrels quite tightly so everything looks just fine right now. Anyway, this was my first set repointed by myself so I expect the next set to go better... 😃

@DartsReviewChannel
@DartsReviewChannel 5 жыл бұрын
not a bad idea as lots do it but not all points and the holes they fit into are as standard as they should be, so some points may be too loose and some may be too tight. Its possible to make either fit though, if its loose you can add some super glue or loctite and if its tight you can file it a little.
