Great job for these very useful and very well explained videos! A masterclass! In about 40 minutes (4 videos of 10 min), we get all we need to know about darts… except the practice! Thank you!

19s are better scores, lose 9pts on a max, easier to hit, but always gets you on a finish too ! Anything that leaves you on double that goes down 3, ie d12-d6-d3, or d16-d8-d4 and so on , so you have 3 darts at a double

My own goal was to just hit something in hole tablo. I still have the change to just hit the wall! I mean cool mathematics tricks, but first you should garandee to throw in a kind small area. Yes, on my first try, with my friend, we try to hit triple 20, the highest score, the half time we just hit something on low half of tablo. After close 30-40 shots my friend hit the target, but quite random. Is hard to control the power of your hand. Maybe the starting practise should be on 2nd game, with just only cycles. But I completely agree from your maths. I have see tone of tacticks on top level championship. Many moves need something more to see the logic even behind the both score, no just your score. If opponent was far away throw some relax moves, if they was behind by a low he go from most aggressive score, usually 180. If close math go from normal plans.

Yes, it certainly does help if you can hit what you are throwing at. I think it is important to work at both the physical side of throwing and the numbers side of the game at the same time. I've seen players who can throw accurately, but who waste shots throwing at the wrong numbers. My videos deal mainly with the numbers - good board management and solid arithmetic. If you want to improve the physical side of your game, there are plenty of options on KZbin. I recommend starting with "Dynamite Dave Darts". He has a lot of good advice about stance and throwing action. Of course, the most important thing is to enjoy yourself. Darts for me has always been about the social side - a night out with good friends. Shoot well.

37 - 3 = D17 and 33 - 19 = D7

Thank you for your attention to detail and for submitting these corrections. Yes, I screwed up! I'm amazed that, no matter how many times I check this stuff, mistakes still elude me. I wish there was an easy way to update the video on KZbin, but as far as I can tell, my only real option is to publish an entirely new version. So yes, those two examples are wrong, but thankfully it's easy enough to figure out what they should be, and hopefully the principles I'm discussing are obvious enough.

Prorgam Tutorial commented on this video, pointing out a mistake. Strangely, the comment seems to have disappeared, but I wanted to respond to it anyway. The comment read, “3 leaves D17 which is not the best double in 37”. This refers to a mistake in my chart, which appears around the 3:10 mark. With 37 points remaining, and two darts in hand, I recommend shooting at the 3-17 wire, because hitting either number with your first dart will leave you with a shot at a double. Hitting S17 leaves D10. Hitting S3 leaves D17 and not D14 as I incorrectly show. I agree that D17 is not a great double to be left with, but at least it gives you a chance to win. If you are 100% confident that you can hit a single every time you shoot at it, then by all means, go S5, D16 or S1, D18, or whatever. If your opponent is not on a finish, or if you’re just playing for fun, then do whatever you like to leave your favorite double. But the point I am trying to make here is, if you are an average player, like me, who sometimes misses when throwing at a fat single, and if your opponent is already on a finish, and if it’s important to win, then you double your odds of leaving yourself on a double by shooting at the combined 3-17 segments. If you shoot at S5 or S1, but stray into a neighboring segment, then you cannot finish with your last dart, and you have to stand back and watch your opponent shoot for the match.

You are good! :-) I thought I'd checked all my figures carefully before I published. Guess I'm not as thorough as thought I was. Once again, I appreciate your attention to detail. When I get some time, I'll make updated versions incorporating all your corrections. Thanks.

Too many incorrect recommendations for finishing. 3 out of ten. 40% success on this video. 😉

Thank you for your response. I always welcome constructive criticism, so perhaps you would care to elaborate on your comment. Provide some examples of where you think my suggestions for 2-dart out shots are incorrect and tell us what you recommend, so we can compare approaches. Bear in mind that my video is targeted at beginner to intermediate players who are probably not 100% confident that they can hit a given single number every time. Many of my recommendations therefore involve throwing at a number where a slip into the adjacent segment still leaves the player on a double with their second (and in our examples, their last) dart.

"We've discussed shot selection" Really? Well that's news to me.
