I do like the way you measured your fabric and batting. I used this method and it turned out perfect. I would rather have my cozy a tad bigger so I can carry it all to the table. I did also do quilting horizontal and vertical then do my darts. My batting was 1/4inch smaller than my fabric. I had less bulk on the sides when I did my topstitching. I also did a second row of topstitching to finish up and secure all the batting well. Thank you for this tutorial... smashing..😊

When I started to look how to make a cozy, and learned about needing everything to be 100% cotton, I was shocked to see people put in micro! I never would have thot of that! I only use mine to hold while eating. I recently made an ‘emergency’ heatable rice pillow (that definitely needs to go into the micro.) The only cotton thread in my stash was vintage and brittle. I had to settle for cotton/ poly. Hope nothing bad happens😳

Try a walking foot or cut the interfacing an inch smaller to keep the bulkiness out of the seams
@margaretdevries80902 жыл бұрын
Yes I’d cut back interfacing !
@thatgirlthatsme2 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem when making bowl cozies but my friend/neighbor told me what I was doing wrong. It will work for the plate cozies too. Don't cut your batting squares the same size as your fabric squares. Cut the batting squares 1 inch smaller. Example: 12 inch fabric square and 11 inch batting square. The batting doesn't need to go out as far as the fabric because you've already sewn them together (when you sewed the X). So you don't need to sew it again on the edge. Now you'll only be sewing through the fabric. The only time you'll sew through the batting is when you sew the X that holds them together. Hope that made sense.
@wendyirvine38742 жыл бұрын
Change your needle to a sharp top stitch needle
@thatgirlthatsme2 жыл бұрын
Timothy, cut the batting squares a half inch or and inch smaller than the fabric squares. You've already sewn them together when you made the X, so they will stay connected to each other. Now you won't be sewing through any batting. I don't know why they don't teach us this way in any of the tutorials. It's so much easier when you top stitch at the end too. Do it this way. I use a size 14 needle on a Brother (cheap) sewing machine. No high tech machine.
