Great video- esp loved the scene at 8:25. Nice to recall the hike I did there a few years ago. One of the best stretches of trail in America.

This week pretty much summed up the essence of what makes up the amazement of hiking for me. a big old mountain, a landscape that is so amazing and alien that you can only experience it by going out there on foot + the whole experience of actually doing all this by yourself. there is simply no better feeling in the world than completing a good mountain hike and coming back to town afterwards. i enjoyed this episode a lot! keep on hiking, always!

Went on my first overnight hike of the year last weekend in the Trinity Alps. Nw I'm really Jonesing for some more backpacking and your videos are only making the craving worse. I just need to wait until the end of August for my only real backpacking trip (2+ weeks) of the year. I think my favorite pass in the Sierra is Probably Mather. I love the Upper Basin on the south side of it.

Enjoyed the video and the trail report. One thing I wish all hikers include in the video is the dates. I only saw one hiker always starts the video with with the date. Can you include some the large stream and river crossings how difficult some are. Thank you.

Not only dates but places... where they are, and when they are there... small text inserts would be easy to do.

@cobbler886 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's too much to ask to put dates. I'm going up Whitney in late September and am curious about when they went up, what with all the snow. The sites do say that late June there is likely still snow, though, and that snow and ice often begin to start building again in September. You can always post the vids a couple of weeks after the actual section hike. That helps take care of worrying about random fans showing up at the next stop.

This is more a general comment - not directed at Darwin, but I always wondered why folks who are semi supported (have friends / spouse, that will meet them) don't just blaze through Kennedy Meadows and connect at Cottonwood lakes campground area (which is less than 2 miles off trail), and get their bear can and snow stuff there. If you do that, it is easy to skip going off trail over Kearsarge pass and you can stay on trail until VVR or Muir trail camp.... Actually, if you are moving quickly, you can go all the way to Red's Meadows if you do that. There are a number of folks who do that and it seems like a good strategy, I don't understand why more folks don't do that. Nothing wrong with the way that you are doing it, but you can spend more time on trail and go more or less directly through the Sierras without a massive off trail resupply.

Thank you for sharing beautiful trail views. (I have a phobia and cannot climb ever, so I don’t know why I ended up in your channel, but I am glad that I am able to enjoy what you and Snuggles share with us: her writings and book reviews are insightful) I guess as you been saying, thru hiking is like being on an emotional roller coaster, so you bump into yourself going ups and downs and sometimes you unexpectedly run into others experiencing those emotional heaps and so on. How do you cope/deal/live with it when others have those emotional venting going?

I like your attitude pretty mellow guy. If I was young, I would try to mimic the way you speak. Like when I saw a great white shark during a night dive in la Jolla CA. I would say: " I am hanging out with this wonderful creature. " I'll try to swim slowly back to shore." It was a mix of fear but amazement. She circled twice around me. Why panic. I knew they were around. Many swimmers she probably passed by. You're a mountain man. You'd do fine out there. In the sea.

Thanks Dude. Those Mountain Passes through the High Sierra got my juices running, more like Mountaineering than hiking. I Have a sentimental attachment to Mt. Whitney. I did the 22 mile up and down hike several times in my 20's. This was before bear cans, permits, lotteries etc. In addition as a student of Sanskrit, I have studied "Whitney's Sanskrit Grammar" (they were brothers). In addition as a ham operator, I have chewed on operating a small Morse Code rig from the top of Whitney, that is if I can dodge lightening bolts with 20 to 30 feet of wire antenna? The question is: Bear cans are unavoidable but is there a section hike to the Summit of Whitney that avoids some of the red tape? I'm an old man and would like to summit Whitney again before I croak ☠ Thanks Dude.

What? They think they have Mt Whitney measured to a thousandth of an inch? I think the earth flexes way more than that from "Earth Tide" (crust tide) up to hundreds of milometers which is probably why the number keeps changing and even sea level is changing but sea level is rising. The mountains are rising and Death Valley is sinking.
