How do you record them at the time of the incident? What notes do you take...or are you totally dependent on your dashcam....? If so, call out the reg. AT THE TIME.. in Court these are "contemporaneous notes"... the best evidence. @@johnt.848

@@MeppyMan yes. but some do a lot better than the others. if you haven't upgrade your dashcam in a while, note that Sony has just has its version 2 sensor Starvis 2 launched this year @2023 April. So if you are still using the 2014 technology, note that reading a plate during day time is a norm now. as well as reading most plates under low light environment or high speed (opposite speeding) cars. you don't even need 4k. 2k is good enough in most case. and they are not expensive at all, like under US$100. don't get it why some dashcams still selling US$800 and can't read a dxmn plate.

@@peetabrown5813 IIRC you are meant to ignore automated signals/signs when a traffic controller in controlling the intersection. The Traffic controller was a bit hard to see where he was, but I think the sedan might be liable.

​@Cheepchipsable traffic controllers aren't allowed to control more than one lane per controller, so we cannot legally control an intersection in that manner unless we are accompanied by police and operating with their instruction. Police can operate an intersection in that way, but require at least 2 officers, sometimes more depending on the speed limit and number of lanes. Police also have keys for the control boxes to disable the lights.

Re: having their car stolen. Some years ago I witnessed that happening in Sydney. I was travelling on a bus. Angry F-wit wearing a suit forces the bus door open, abusing and threatening the bus driver. The bus driver starts laughing and says to the guy that someone has just driven off with his car. Angry guy now pleads with the bus driver to use his phone so he can call the cops. Bus driver tells him to get the F#%k of his bus. Some passengers cheered, laughed or told the guy to get off, which he did. The bus driver drives off and the passengers cheer again. Even more hilarious, angry guys car was a Mercedes. LOL

If it was compulsory for every car to have a front and rear dashcam, insurance policies would go up for the idiots we are watching and potentially down for those who drive within the rules with respect to other drivers - Your thoughs?

I imagine there are people on here with 'good intentions' that manifest as 'bad ideas'. These people no doubt think they would be keeping everyone safe by being each other's policeman and reporting transgressors who don't conform. That is exactly the kind of mentality that occurred in Russia and the former USSR. It occurs a lot in dictatorships, and places like China or North Korea. It also occurred in Nazi Germany and their occupied countries. The great Utopian dream gone wrong.... let's live in a country where we report everyone who doesn't conform to our views.... in this case our views about driving. Perhaps, we should focus on how we drive in context with what is happening around us instead of what others are doing right or wrong. I have watched a lot of dash cam videos from other countries. Yes, some do things better than Australians, and some don't. What I do see is the same kind of mistakes and poor decisions turning up in videos from Canada, from Russia, from the UK, from the USA etc. These videos tell me people aren't perfect.... we analyse information and make decisions differently... and often it doesn't play out in a predictable way when we share the roads with other motorists. That said, we don't need to add to the issues by creating some kind of dystopian Utopia like 1984 Out of curiosity... how many people have done an 'advanced' drivers course, or read any books about driving and driver behaviour.... like Frank Gardiner's Drive to Survive etc.?

NSW police used to have a few cops trawling social media for dashcam clips that had clear plates, and were obviously in NSW. They would send the details to the local cops to go have a word with the car owner. Normally this is as far as it went, but they did issue a few fines at times for the particularly stunning stupidity. I'm not sure if this group is still running. I hope they are, but it seems it might have stopped considering how much stupid we're seeing lately.

Real karma would be the cam driver moving out a little but stopping and the ute driver swerving to miss him and wrapping his ute around the pole. As it is, the DC driver got a wrecked car for Christmas and had to deal with this entitled (and maybe drunk or drugged) cnt on the side of the road.

@@Factchekka Sorry, seeing all the other driving habits (Like KNOWINGLY running red lights, passing in no passing zones, ignoring basic rule of round-abouts, switching lanes at will -- no signal and without checking to see if the lane is open and on and on) I don't think so. Not that there are no accidents (or idiots, for that matter) in the US but I really don't see this blatant disregard for rules of the road as frequently as in the AU clips. Maybe you see it differently.

@@Factchekka You may have a point there, LOL. In reality, with some 350 million guns in the country, it is very seldom (luckily) that guns are involved in traffic incidents. Also, just watched US clips and there is really not much difference in offensive driving. There might just be a difference in frequency comparing AU to the US since we have more than 10 times as many cars on the road yet can't seem to come up with 10 times as many videos. At any rate, drive with your own safety in mind and we'll be ok.
