Likewise I appreciate that Dash, despite learning his punches don't really do any damage, still threw them for Violet because that's what he knew he could do in that moment. Although I have to wonder if his limited offense was in part because he was always encouraged to run as a defensive measure, to save himself. Bulking up might decrease his speed (and make him unable to run on water), but if it meant he could use it aggressively, maybe Edna could cook up a specialized suit for that.

What makes this so good is that the henchmen are actually smart and competent instead of the usual dumb punching bags to make the heroes look cooler. Makes the action more tense and exciting with actual stakes

Unfortunately, when The Incredibles came out it wasn’t typical for animated family movies to have children in actual danger either, or to have them kill bad guys to defend themselves. Helen’s warning to the kids about how serious the danger was surprised me when I saw it in the theater! The guards actually being smart rather than disposable fodder stood out too. This movie was and still is refreshingly different from anything else.
