I just want to publish a public warning: This is a crazy story, but yesterday (July 11, 2022) I was driving from Stockholm to Norrköping, and I took a short break in Södertälje. I ate a hot dog at a nearby restaurant, and when I got back to my car, there was another car next to mine with Finnish license plates. I told them that they couldn’t park there ’cause they were in the way for other cars, but I offered them my parking lot since I was just about to leave. They said that they were having problems with the car, and one of the rear tires looked indeed kinda weird, so I believed them. I wasn’t able to help them with the tire, though, but they also told me that the car was almost out of diesel, and they didn’t had any Swedish crowns (SEK), only Euros, which are useless in Sweden. They asked me to buy some diesel for their car, and stupid as I was, I agreed. So I got in my car and drove to the nearest fuel station, and their car was just behind. I told them that I was short of money, but eventually I was able to buy 9 litres of diesel for 230 SEK (~2,30€). There was 3 or 4 men and 1 woman, probably in their early 20s. One of the guys spoke Swedish, and he asked for my phone number so he could pay back via Swisch (google it) once they arrived in Finland. They said that they would drive up to Stockholm to catch the night ferry. The only reason that I did this was because it was a very strange situation, and I thought ”what if they telling the truth? Imagine to be stuck in a foreign country with no money, no fuel and a broken car. Even if you want to get home, you can’t.” There is several things I should’ve done before I agreed to buy them some fuel. Ask for their names and phone numbers and check how much fuel they had before I refueled. Obviously I have not received any money (yet). I am pissed at them ’cause they scammed me, and pissed at myself because I agreed to ”help” them. The amount of money that they got away with is not really a big deal, but still. So my point is that if you ever see a black / dark grey Volvo V50 with (I’m not 100% sure) license number GBB*514, you what to do.
