Of course, the typical "medical emergency" excuse! Trotted out every time. How does this work, exactly? When I ride & drive, I see practically every other driver illegally on their phones, day in an day out. It's like there's no law against it. In fact, you think there's a law REQUIRING you text your buddies while driving! At the same time, I have YET to EVER see anyone experience a "medical emergency" behind the wheel. Been cycling for 52 years, driving for 43. But every time we have something like this happen, it's suddenly "medical emergencies" all over the place! He loses control as he hits a raised patch of ice that is higher on the right side, Yes, he does try to brake at this instant (you can see the brake lights come on), which probably contributes to him losing control (because the hard braking put the right front wheel into a slide). Speeding and not leaving enough space ahead contributed to this accident, as did apparent inexperience driving in icy conditions, but the ice patch was the triggering event.

@dudeonbike80010 күн бұрын
Why would you jump to the very rare "medical issue" theory before assuming distracted driving? Looks like the guy was on his phone as he drifted out of his lane and into the vehicle in front. Then in his surprise, he grabs the wheel, over-corrects (typical) and flies into the river. Had it been a "medical issue," he likely would have continued on his path, drifting left out of his lane. On the phone. That's EXACTLY what it looked like, and illegal driving while using a phone is EPIDEMIC. So why pick the far less probable cause?
@lelaine6111 күн бұрын
A medical condition maybe caused this😬
@dudeonbike80010 күн бұрын
Yet not the very common, epidemic use of a phone behind the wheel illegally? Of COURSE you want to make the driver the victim here. Once again, we see people literally JUMPING to excuse a driver's behavior before ANY facts are in. However, the facts presented on the video show a driver who over-reacted to hitting the vehicle in front. This would be consistent with someone on the phone and then surprised they hit someone. If he had some major "medical emergency" then how would he suddenly "come to" when he bumped into the car in front? He'd simply have continued on his way, drifting left as his medical emergency went its course. This coincides with the use of the term "accident" when drivers crash. More evidence of how people are brainwashed to begin exonerating driver behavior before anything is known. Terrible word that many smart media and LE are refusing to use anymore. Call it what it is, a collision, wreck or crash, not something the tries to relieve drivers of responsibilty.

That bridge was built in 1929 when the typical car was a Model A Ford that weighed a little over a ton, and would have likely been going 20mph, probably less in ice and snow. Yet you fail to mention the MOST PROBABLE cause? Distracted driving, aka illegal phone use behind the wheel? Amazing mental gymnastics to omit this most likely cause. He didn't "slam" into the vehicle in front, he HIT it. THEN he over-reacted to the collision, so a sleepy driver or medical condition doesn't fit. But being on the phone, drifting out of his lane and then colliding with the car in front DOES. THAT brought his attention away from his phone, he over-reacts (typical) and flies into the river. You think LE is gonna check his phone records? Most likely not. That won't fit the driver victim narrative.
@Dakota-b1x10 күн бұрын
He was driving over a bridge and they can be icy in inclement weather. The pickup truck driver could have also hit black ice. I had that happen to me and I was not speeding nor had I been drinking or on any medication. I was very awake and headed south to visit family for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I lost complete control of my 2010 Toyota Avalon and was skidding back and forth between the left two lanes like a maniac across 95-S near Woodbridge. This all started when I saw someone who appeared to be drifting into my lane from right side of my car. When I quickly turned my steering wheel to the left to avoid a collision, I lost control and immediately knew I was in trouble. It was scary as hell! It felt like my car was ice skating and whenever I tried to take control of the steering wheel, I over corrected and made matters worse. I don't know how long this went on before I hit guardrails (THANK GOD as other parts of this highway has no protection barriers between vehicles traveling north and south) and the impact stopped my vehicle which is now facing north. As I was rattled and as I gathered myself I noticed the airbags intact remained intact and the radio was still playing! 😳 My Avalon was totaled but THANK GOD I got out of the car w/o a scratch or concussion but did get medical attention for assurance. So, this could have been a similar situation with the truck driver. We'll know what happened when they complete their investigation. My heart goes out to the those who lost their lives.

Wonder if he was texting... Or watching TikTok... Hit a car in the far fight lane, and then veer left across traffic and thru the cocnrete railing and into the drink. Damn. Something about that just ain't right. Did he hit the gas instead of the brake? God bless the first responders, and the divers. Was he going _into_ DC or out? I can't tell from the video. Nuckin futs.

an oddly specific deduction without any research and evidence!. so how exactly did you come to that scientific and rational conclusion? So many detectives an pathologists.

Pickup did not slow down, ran right into the car. I’m a reluctant fan of as many safety devices as possible in vehicles. Forward collision detector could have made the difference here

Trouble with you news they did not pull the driver out yet. They forgot him

LOL at bridge railing comments. Yeah, they just slapped up some ornamental flea market posts randomly and it had nothing to do with a speeding truck that hit at a 90-degree angle while still accelerating. And there have been thousands of vehicles that have done the same. Come on, man!

That railing was entirely adequate to stop the Model A Fords that were crossing the bridge when it was built in 1929. Probably would stop a modern car too. But trucks are heavy, and that one was moving WAY too fast for the conditions.

Guess those rails are more decoration than preventative use.

Seems to me they need to close that bridge , those barriers didn't do anything, what are they made out of plastic?

Very sad - weird movement by the pickup - he changed lanes but did not brake, causing the collision.

The way the truck appeared to deliberately steer towards that railing, I think it was suicide. Sure looked like it.

Need to LOOK at the video!! The CAR edged into the truck's left rear and this caused the truck to veer left and through the concrete railing. The CAR caused the wreck!!
@kaylapalooza669 күн бұрын
Looks like you need to visit the eye doctor. The dark car changing lanes was several feet away from the truck. The truck hit something on its right, like a curb or piece of ice, then clipped the car in front of it,then veered left

Those old stone "rails" are not going to stop a full sized pickup truck coming head on.

The railings on most bridges are merely decorative, in practice.

. the barrier was DEI constructed . I'm surprised it was't painted lavender, pink and green

@goodswiftievibes Pretty sure the bridge was NOT designed for a truck to hit it head on. As for the other comment, let's see their construction skills.

When 4x4 and off road capabilities, work a little too well. 2 men in an SUV drowned in Chantilly just a few days ago after jumping the curb in a parking lot, and going into a pond.
