@Laurielism2 жыл бұрын
@Mee ibast I do agree with you, the obstruction was in his lane, he is legally required to wait until he is clear to go. However, the realism if heavy vehicles in congested areas needs to be considered too. That gap was substantial and the dc would have to slow minimally to allow him to merge into the lane, letting all of the traffic continue to flow instead of creating a biggee obstruction. Just like with cars, it's generally safest and keeps traffic flowing best to work with each other and allow leeway to get around obstacles. It doesn't matter to me if it's a truck or a car.

@@Laurielism The rules are silent on distance because it is left to every driver to determine what is "safe" - that is, to avoid a collision. If another driver has to brake for you when you join a road or change a lane then you have NOT entered safely. There is also no rule that requires you to slow when entering an intersection. Again, it is about doing it safely. Yes, in this incident, the DC driver is also at fault for travelling over the speed limit. @@lesstockley4937 That’s my entire point. It’s those who slam on the brakes at the last second and as you so accurately put it “braked hard enough to only just miss” a collision, leave no margin of error for the person behind. Those who do not “brake so hard as to only just miss the car in front”, but instead brake early, and brake slowly and brake smoothly give the car following another 8 seconds to react, so they very much lessen the chance of being rear ended themselves. You have (unwittingly) just confirmed my premise.

I drive down that road often, a lot of road trains go down there & you always have to look ahead for parked trucks & stuff, it's just a matter of looking down the road & giving people room, driver curtesy goes a long way unless you want the big trucks to take up the inside lane all the time & a few do just for that reason, he should have know the truck would want to do that, especially if they're local.
