Nightvale paid for their own flight and hotel room, the people hosting the convention wanted to pay them afterwards instead of upfront for the panel. When conventions bring in guest they are responsible for paying everything for the guest. Flight and hotel, even paying them upfront for any panels. Not afterwards, it does not work that way and no guest should pay for their own things! I actually applaud Nightvale for leaving!!

@@SnabbKassa better to have a few people who don’t care enough to learn the full story know you as the ones who walked than to have every sketchy event organizer know you as the ones who worked for free. Ultimately, it’s a business, and doing the nice thing for the fans would be rewarding the people who scammed everyone in the first place. I do feel bad for the crowd who didn’t get to see the show they paid for but you can’t blame Night Vale for choosing the smarter option after being put into a double bind

It’s even worse look for DashCon. The WTNV crew was in the middle of their UK and EU tour. They flew from Europe to Chicago to do this show and got dicked around by the DashCon organizers. They wanted to pay them after the show, because they didn’t have the funds upfront to pay. Or, that what’s what they would have the convention attendees believe. I think the DashCon organizers were trying to finesse the WTNV crew into doing the show for free and then nickel and diming them after the show.

These people spent a lot of money to come to this convention, a sigh isn't good enough. This panel was your headline event, the only reason some people even came to this convention. The staff must've never been to a convention, or even talked to people at conventions because then you'd see that a lot of these people are children who begged their parents for this one event, people who had to schedule time off from work to go, people who this is their one vacation out of the year, kids who have been saving birthday money to go...for a convention that was supposed to be an extravagant ordeal they not only missed the target, but didn't even make it close. A real shame to the attendees who had to put up with this. The con staff said that the $17k raised the night prior would go towards wifi for next year; they should've put that towards paying for the WTNV cast to perform/hotel stay.

This is a prime example of a disaster con. To be honest though, Dashcon was a scam from the beginning and the only thing that even held it together was a ball pit and a bouncy house that was bought BY ONE OF THE CON-GOERS FOR THE CON RATHER THAN THE ORGANIZERS. First cons can be horrible, but if a friend of mine's father and friend could run a successful con for 2 years and it only had to do with Video games and Bacon, there's something wrong here. The people at Dashcon had all the means to make this a great con, but they failed to deliver. I myself did not go, but I feel bad for anyone that went there. Also, RIP ball pit. You lasted for 3 days until someone decided to piss in you. You really tied the con together and now we will be making jokes about "Extra hour in the ball pit" for the next few weeks... or until we get sick of it.

Huge waste of time on everyone's part. You don't wait until last minute to pay someone you ask to hold an event. It gets paid up front and in advance so this won't happen. It sounds like no one over 20 was in charge and everything was last minute and probably booked days ago. Asking for pizza for a con at 1 in the morning does not fly either. And the biggest disaster is when they had the gall to ask for cash with a brown grocery bag to keep the con there.
