What they could do in regards of day cabs, motels and rest areas is, if you are in a day cab and stop at a rest area that doesn't have a motel, is you still rest but not fully, so like if you stop at a motel you wake up and have a 13 hour day ahead of you (fully rested) you stop a non-hotel rest area in a day cab you wake up with 9 hour day ahead of you (not fully rested) I think this would simulate you not having a comfy sleep due to sleeping in the seat of your truck. So in a nut shell you get tired quicker if you don't rest in motel while driving a day cab.

My grandfather was a trucker back in the 50s through the 70s. There wasn't much in the way of "sleeper cabs". He used to have a board he fashioned that made a bridge across the seats and a bed roll. He used to sleep across the seats on long journies. It's not comfortable, but certainly possible to sleep in a day cab.

I don't mind the fines, back in ETS2 I was always speeding because there were no penalties besides the occasional speed camera. Now I always follow the speed limit, and I enjoy it more honestly. Not to mention now the cost of repairing your truck is almost free even if you have a major accident, because you use to pay 10 grand if you have a big collision
@anastasiareed360
@anastasiareed360 9 жыл бұрын
What's really annoying is the changes in speeds, they just don't make any sense, and they're not well shown. Sometimes it's at 55 and goes down to 30 for literally only about 10 seconds. And they should give you a timer before they can fine you after the speed limit changes, something like 10-15 seconds, so you get the time to actually slow down after you see that the speed limit changed. Because at the moment, you have to know where the speed limit changes and slow down before so, they should have panels saying like "crossroad 30 mph in 1/2 mile" as they do in real life

Here in Texas cars and trucks can both go the posted speed limit. Double yellow means no overtaking, yes. Single dotted means you can overtake no matter which direction you're travelling. In the case of a dotted and solid line, if the dotted line is on your side you may overtake, whereas if you've got a solid line on your side, you may not.

Getting out and having a shave does seem extreme yeah hah, but getting out and pressing the use key on the front door then warping in then getting the time passage screen would be cool. Then when rested you spawn back at the door and then walk into the lorry. Even if you don't do a lot outside the truck it would still be cool to have.

Double Solid lines does indeed mean no overtaking for both directions of traffic. Can also have a single dotted/broken line which means both directions can overtake. Then there can also be a solid + dotted line, so solid on one side and broken on the other which means the lane with a solid line can't pass, but the other side can.

Yep! Double yellow line = no passing zone. If you have a double yellow but one of the lines is broken, that direction of traffic can attempt passing because they have better visibility. Single Dashed yellow means both sides can attempt overtaking when safe to do so.

Those smaller gas (petrol) stations usually don't allow large semi's to use their pumps since they don't have the space for them. The stations that have the diesel pumps with the gasoline pumps usually only allow smaller diesel vehicles( delivery trucks, pickups, cars and etc)to fuel at those pumps. They usually have a cut off at 25 gallons. Service stations that are accessible to large semi-trucks have a dedicated fueling island around the side or back that has high flow pumps that will fill the large 90+ gallons tanks quicker than a conventional pump and many of the larger stations will have pumps on both sides so they driver is able to fill his tanks at the same time. What they are missing in this game are the large travel plazas with restaurants, mechanics, truck wash.

I'm sure that motel with a house uphill behind you can see to the right from 6:20 to 6:40 is a reference to Bates motel from the classic Hitchcock film "Psycho". In the movie the protagonist travels from Phoenix, Arizona to a fictional California town, so it makes sense.

correct on the center lines squirrel. yellow indicates a two lane road with lanes going opposite directions. whatever side is broken indicates that lane can pass the other lane cannot. if its yellow with a single broken line then both directions can pass. white broken lines indicates lanes all go the same direction.

+Squirrel Of Mice and Men is a novella by John Steinbeck and a Irish poem called To a Mouse by Robert Burns. Unbroken mean no passing what so ever. Broken on your side you can pass only and broken on their side means they can pass but you can't and finally a single broken line means anyone can pass.

I think a better idea about the sleeping in a day cab thing is you should be able to sleep at a rest area that does not have a motel but you dont get fully rested up... maybe something like 75% rested....and the game keep track of that... so if the next night you sleep at a rest area without a hotel then you are only get 50% rested. Also after sleeping in a day cab you still have the full amount of time before you get a fine but you have to sleep sooner... so you dont have to worry about a fine but falling asleep.... so more people would be more apt to push it to make their deliveries because the dont have to worry about the fine but will nod off just before getting there and not only be fined for falling asleep and crashing but then they will have a huge repair bill that should not be covered by the in game insurance

I hope you don't mind my little observations. Let me know if you do. At the start of this episode, you left your rest spot, without trailer, which is called "bobtail". If you had an empty trailer going for a load, you would be dead-heading to the shipper, but you are always picking up a load. So, your bobtailing, you made a left turn at the first intersection, and entered the right lane. You should be in the left lane when you enter, even with a trailer, and change into the right lane once you are clear to do so. The reasoning is that when you make a left turn, cars WILL try to pass you on the right hand side through the intersection, and you may not see them. Darn four-wheelers!

yes yellow line means no passing. if there is a solid yellow line on your side, and a broken yellow line on the other side, it means the other side can pass, but you cant. solid yellow = no pass (overtaking) broken yellow = it's okay to pass the broken yellow changes sides periodically, and sometimes it's broken yellow on both sides. ive wondered too why in the us and canada the striping is yellow for shared highways in which the traffic is going opposite directions, but white for highways where traffic is going in same directions. theres stuff about it in wiki but doesnt really explain the divergence in color choices, yellow and white are highly visible at night, so that makes sense.

Yeah, that intersection in Tonopah onto the highway was frustratingly annoying with how much traffic was flowing through even at 8:30pm. In my game I came up behind a truck, and he was giving priority to someone who was turning Left off that highway. In the time I was at that intersection, several more vehicles got in the left turn lane, and because there was so much traffic flowing going the other way, those in the left turn lane couldn't go, preventing the truck in front of me from even moving. I waited over an hour and a half of in game time before I decided to do a save/load to clear the existing traffic. It wouldn't be so bad if time was flowing at a rate of 1:1, but given the accelerated rate of time, if you sit there for any length of time, you could very well risk being late for the delivery...

+SB Gaming Regarding achievements there's probably no 100% map discovery achievement yet, since we only have 2 out of the 48 states. Everyone who got 100% map discovery before the next DLC comes out wouldn't have anything to look forward to, whereas everyone else who was getting close when the next comes out would have a whole lot more to drive, even if they were that close to getting the achievement. What I found a bit disappointing is that only California got the Discover every city achievement, and Nevada was left out, but I can understand. There's a lot more cities in California. SCS could pretty much make anything an achievement, not that it necessarily matters all that much.

First off, love your videos. Though I'm a recent subscriber, I have been a long time follower. Second, the double solid line does mean no passing. If it is broken on one side, someone on that side can start to pass, and if its a single broken line. Anyone from either side can pass. Finally, your driver getting tired after 400 miles is that uncommon. As an American who recently drove from Montana to Maine, I was driving eight hour days averaging about 450 miles. Out west, everything is so large in land mass that I was only changing states about once a day.

I believe it would make sense to program different qualities of rest. F.E.: If you have no sleeping cabin you can either sleep in a motel ( and pay a fee? ) or just have a short rest in your driver seat. If you have a sleeping cabin you can also choose between sleeping or just resting shortly. I'd make a difference like sleeping will take 6 hours but you can go for 18 hours afterwards and resting maybe only takes 3 hours but you have to rest or sleep again after 8 hours. I think that shouldn't be too hard to implement and it would add realism and also tactics for longer journeys?

One thing to be said about the AI giving way when you turn left at a light. In America large intersections like that would have a light and timing to allow for vehicles to turn left before the rest of the traffic can go forward or right. ATS currently is without anything to simulate that with the AI so it has to be more passive, otherwise every left like that would only be possible when the light begins to change.

If the double yellow line is broken (dashed) on your side, you may cross them to pass. Do not cross over the lines to pass if the line is solid on your side (double yellow line) You may cross a double yellow line to turn into or out of a private driveway. If you’re NOT in a business district or a residential district, you may cross a double yellow line to make a U-turn as long as you have an unobstructed view for 200 feet. These are the California rules. Other states may differ.

I agree with you on the trailer diversity, like adding livestock cargo. I also think they need to the make the cargo pick-up more realistic meaning you own the trailer and keep the trailer which means you only deliver the cargo and if you don't the trailer the type for that cargo you cant haul it, ie: if you don't own a flatbed trailer you cant haul construction equipment.

I actually prefer using the 18 speed Eaton-Fuller transmission. 17 and 18 are over drive gears. Usually the game just leaves me in 16 so my RPMs are holding about 1500 and my fuel economy is about 6.5mpg. I go from 16 to 18 I can easily get up to 7.8-8.1mpg which does help overall, until I hit hills then have to downshift back into 16.

Hi Squirrel, I think you have a slight misconception about power and torque because of one comment you did while climbing a road. Power=work/time and if you make some replaces you reach to power=speed*force. That makes sense because if you want to pull(force) more at a same speed, you need more power(Jeremy Clarckson moment LOL). The combination of the power peak rpm (not torque peak) and the correct gearing gives you the best climb speed. For starting to move from 0 MPH is when you should use that torque peak(work=force*distance, at 0 mph there's not any distance being traveled) Anyway, you can do a quick test with a same cargo climbing the same road, and playing with those two peaks.

+Squirrel Try a real transmission setting. My truck in the game has a 13 speed trani so I went to the game settings and changed it to match the trani. It is way better than the standard non realistic style that is given from the start. It also helps with the fuel economy on the trucks. Getting better MPG after I switched over. Another nice thing that it does is change where the gear positions are, just where they should be. Couldn't stand having the reverse gear way over near 6 and having to push the stick down to get into gear. Now it is just straight up in 1 position for reverse like a real transmission in a truck is and you also get a Low gear under the reverse gear. In the end it has three great points, realism, better fuel economy, and it helps with the cruise control issue between gears not having the right ratio you need to get up some small hills. You still have to downshift but not as much. You should try it out one episode and see what you think. The intersection in Tonopah is already impossible to make a left turn in the day time. The AI system in the game is broke for that since there are no breaks or openings in the traffic. All the time when I go to an intersection like that I have to force my way out and make the AI's stop. And if there are AI's in front of me at the stop sign then you might as well go on the wrong side of the road to make the turn or you will sit there until night time. You are correct on the double yellow line it does mean no passing is allowed.

I don't know if the game does this, but there is a valve that dials back the brakes when there is no air to the trailer. They can still be pretty stiff in a light day cab like that. 10th is really for 65+ with what you've got. I know a old timer that makes 1600 mile runs in a day cab t800. He's a little crazy though.

I find it funny putting on the blinker on a freeway entrance merge gets you in better.... Makes me realize you haven't been doing it before! Where I live, nobody is obliged to stop and let you in of course, but just about everyone signals in a ramp merge like that as a courtesy. Only assholes speed up to cut you off.

in some places in france they put gravel in the tarmac because it's cheaper, but god it's annoying, the noise it makes when you roll over it, all the gravel bouncing under the car, and I'm sure it damages the cars

Trucks are designed to for heavy loads when you have no load it's not properly simulated but you have to be lighter on your brakes or you wheel hop and skid to a stop cause your brake locks up the wheels.

Yes, if there is a double yellow line on a 2 lane road, that means no passing from either lane. If there is a broken line on the left or right lane and a double on the other, that means ONLY that lane can pass and the one with the double line can't. Now if there's a SINGLE broken line, that means EITHER lane can pass. On freeways and tollroads, you'll see broken white lines.

Your idea about not resting at a rest stop with no motel if you don't have a sleeper cab is a good idea and would add to the difficulty

When you're stopped the time scale goes to real time and when you drive it goes up so it doesn't matter if you stay more at a level crossing.

Btw Squirrel, the ai yielding to you when you turn left on green is correct. American road law in most cases says right turn on red must yield to those turning left on green

Resting now is just an incredibly simplistic representation of Hours of Service regulation. I think the game should have a rest timer that you can set. Just being a per-determined 10 hours is ludicrous. To me anyway. Generally the only time I would stop for a full 10 hours, when I was running OTR, is when I was in between loads or someplace I really wanted to be. Back then that place was usually Reno. Still have the plastic mug from the giant truck stop off I-80. The Alamo! That was way back before they got bought by Petro and they were partnered with Western Village, I think it was. It was cool. Park, get a shower, take the shuttle bus over to the casino, shuttle bus back when done. Good times.

I know someone that is a truckdriver aswel and it is pretty much the same (he doesn't drive in the US, but in holland) The truck is not very special but it is still nice to look at! i've watched every single episode of this series!!

I got hit almost the same way you nearly did. I was in Oakdale with the long triple axle tanker to drop off. Right before the drop off I was going around a corner in the loop area in town. Truck is though but the trailer is still in the intersection. Car comes flying by and slams into my trailer.
