Using the Data Channel Modifier to set vertex vertex colours in 3DS Max and used in UE4

i find the data channel modifier really frustrating. is there a way to do AO within the data channel and output that way? im struggling to create a workflow where i output AO > R channel, Curvature > G channel and have 5 encoded levels for the B channel, which would all be interpreted in unreal. i dunno if im just being dumb here, but i cant seem to combine the AO bake from radiosity into just 1 channel, and then also layer on the curvature as well

Hey Paul, geat tut and I'm a bit late to the party but is there a way to convert MatID to a specific vertex color with this method?

Not had time to try that but the Convert To Subobject Type operator might do it.

Thanks for the tip, I did already fiddle with that myself, and it sort of worked, but I had no control over the color. Thanks for taking the time to respond.@@paulneale

@@vincent074 Use a Curve control to scale the values. That works here and I have control that I would expect.
