I'd also love to see Tableau Prep enable publishing a single data source with multiple tables from separate flows. Leveraging relationships is a game changer when combining various datasets. Sure, you can aggregate data in the flow, but that risks losing the granular details users will eventually need. With relationships, you can aggregate in the view while still accessing row-level details when necessary.

Thanks for the conversation Tim! This was so much fun. Love talking about these issues. Keeps me sharp. Hope it helped other people with their data model thinking in Tableau!

I loved this conversation between Tim and Kirk. Our world needs more of these. I will forever be traumatized by using Tableau Bridge.

On writing a book, I think it's harder to write a book than to record a video but conveying information is naturally more condensed in text than in video. It's also a function of the way people speak vs how they write. When you write, you edit a lot and information is condensed because you use the least amount of words as possible for organizational purposes. But when you speak, you can ramble a lot and it's harder to get information out of it (there's just so much fluff in speaking). There's only so much you can edit out of a video because you can't cut and shorten sections as well. And going 2x-3x the speed is not the same as skimming a text or paragraph which people can do a lot faster at a glance. I also think retaining information is lower in listening than it is for reading. It's a very different optimization for producers vs consumers of videos/audio and text.

You should see some for the scripts i've written. There is a ton of writing for making videos in some cases especially for higher level productions like my sketchnotes video considerably more. My top watched videos have all been scripted but your point stands on speech in video vs written text and making it easier to read. I think I'll call out when you see a video on my channel thats say 10 minutes its usually taken 7 to 8 times longer to record it and 4x longer to edit. so for a 10 minute video were looking at an hour to record it and get it right and then another half hour to edit it and then theres the additional work of publishing it and adding metadata so nealry 2 hours for a 10 minute video. thats roughly 1500 words in a script form for comparison. I guess the only way to find out is to go ahead and write that book i have in mind ! :D

@@TableauTim Oh it's a lot of effort to make video content too! I think I just recall how much time I personally spent on writing just a few paragraphs in school and throw my opinion behind more time spent in writing and editing as a result 😅
