What are the odds this would work on a card that seems to overheat when it is being read from? I have pulled data off it twice and it seems to get worse each time. I assume there is a short, but I imagine if there is a short it is within the chip itself, right? Rather than on the contacts you can expose or the normal contacts you use to read from

if you got a multimeter at home check for beep in continuity mode on the two longer pins out of 7, if it beeps your cards is shorted.

Are other cards overheating in this same slot? If so make sure all contacts are clean/corrosion free or replace it. If not, the card is your problem, stop using it before you have real trouble getting your data off it - bin it for recycle and get another one. As cheap as memory is these days I'd skip having to do a spider-board recovery if i was getting warning a card was possibly going kaput.
