Data Recovery using Hex Editor HxD

In this video we'll see how to do data recovery using a hex editor.
A hex editor will allow us to see the hexadecimal contents of any file, disk, usb, etc. and using that data we can attempt a data recovery.

You can use this method to cut pictures out of other files, such as PDFs. The recovery will fail if the file isn't contiguous or has been erased by the internal cleanup of the disk drive. Usually it isn't important to find the precise ending. Any trailing data in JPEG can be dropped using an "optimizer" application. The header is only FF D8, after that you can have FF E0, FF E1, or FF DB, for jfif, exif or quantization table block respectively.

when looking at the formatted drive, what if "FF D9" appears not just at the end, but all over the place. I am trying to retrieve .7z files, and apparently they end with "00 00". But the location from which I am trying to retrieve the files from have "00 00"s all over the place

Hey, so I was about to repair my photos using this method but apparently my corrupted photo's hex are only contains of a bunch of F's. I've read from many sources that if it's only contains of 0's, it's beyond repair. But how about my case? is there any way to recover my photos if it's just contain of a bunch of F's?

to clarify, you have a file (like, picture.jpg) that, upon checking in hex editor, is filled from start to end with 0xFF? if yes, it's highly likely unrecoverable. if you don't mind, could you send the file to me to check for you? i'm trying to build an image repair tool, and would appreciate having test data.
