Depends on how you feel about the Rich.. 🤔 Democrats say they are leeching the poor.. Republican say they Create Opportunities for the poor.. I as an observer have witnessed both.. So I understand why people are switching to the Republican side.. They'd rather have a Job than non at all.. And tho the Rich in the end will always seek to better themselves, they need people for that, so in turn their presence creates opportunities for those people to better themselves through the new and available Jobs created..

@@myman8336 Since President Reagan, the economy has trickled up, and the rich have been getting richer. Now much of the country's wealth is held in .1% hands. These people have more money than they could spend in a lifetime--more than their heirs could spend. When we rage against the rich, it's not the boss, the small business owner, or even the millionaires. It's the BILLIONAIRES, and corporate heads, who pay their employees poverty wages, while insuring their shareholders make millions. It's those who have bought out their competition, and now have so many businesses, and so much wealth under one umbrella, that they are too big to fail. We watched Trump bail out the airlines--that's OUR tax money--when many of us can't afford to fly. We watched him bail out cruise lines not even based in the US. Common sense tells us that WE have to have insurance, and savings to weather economic downturns, but corporations--BILLIONAIRES--do not. They get to take even more money from taxpayers, so they don't fail. Capitalism is about making profits, but there's another aspect they're ignoring--failure. Capitalism means the strong survive, and the weak fail. Let them fail! Let them declare bankruptcy. Let them sell assets. Let them get loans from lenders--the same way WE must. In failure, new, fresh ideas can take root. New businesses can fill the gaps. (Okay, let's keep it relevant to the video.) I believe we're being duped. We think we've got a choice in our country, depending on whether we vote Democrat or Republican, left or right, conservative, or liberal. The rich donate to BOTH SIDES! They own the system; and we're just fooling ourselves into believing we have ANY control. The only reason I keep voting, is because I don't believe they're all bought....yet.

Then nailed trump. Pelosi same they all look after their revenue earning to be rich n their american people poor is ok. They protect themself to be voted in the populations dead is ok not them. Like tailban n afaganistan the soldiers n equipment usd600 billions left behind for the tailban to conquer other nations like ukraine . Why Russia wanted to grab Ukraine is next door to Russia. Is like USA n mexico if more communists are surrounding america america will loosing lots of land to Mexico or as unknown land for america n mexico like a border no man's land. Amen. Their problem is campaign financing and their allegiance to their donors keeps them from fulfilling their campaign policies. Huh, a worldwide phenomenon? How could that be? Having the entire political landscape made up of only two parties is a property almost unique to the United States democracy (and the Brits). Most other democracies have a lot more parties. Having more than two parties, many voters switch between parties from election to election. Coalitions happen, rarely only a single party forms the government. Some parties grow over the years, others shrink. For example, here in Germany the Greens were founded only in 1980, decades after the other big parties, but are pretty much on par with them now and do a lot more than just politics for the environment. France and Italy are known for brand new parties getting the majority of the votes on the first try. It doesn't really work out to project 'Democrats' and 'Republicans' onto other democracies.

Why do people say that its the economy that drive them to the GOP? The economy can't get any better than it is now! Unemployment is at 3.6% lower then at anytime under Trump, over 11 million unfilled job, almost ever business pay at least $15 and hour yet there is still a worker shortage! The stock market is over 30k. I know people like to blame inflation but that don't seems to stop people from spending! Inflation is a worldwide problem as well as high gas prices so I don't know what they think the republicans can do to bring down inflation!

Because Brandon torpedoed the Keystone XL pipeline that Trump greenlit on his very first day in office. He also let all the federal gas and oil leases lapse without renewal and has cut refinery production in the name of "climate change". With Trump we might have still had inflation. But it doesn't take an expert to know all that independent energy we would have had if not for Brandon would have softened the blow massively. You can spout this propaganda to the uneducated and uninformed. But I've actually watched what this president has done. Food shortages and inflation that makes 2008 look like prosperity. *The economy has never looked better!* Good God you must be an elite. Who gives a shit what the NASDAQ says when the average American is suffering massively. So disconnected from reality it's sad.

I remember hearing "organized discontent" in my young days. It's hard to hang onto the ball when the other party decides it doesn't care about the people, just their "power" in Congress and will do whatever it takes to block the democratic party efforts on behalf of the people and country. There used to be a lot of give and take between the parties - not anymore. I think it is because of the people who have managed, thru oblique deceit, to get themselves elected and have continued to do whatever it takes to keep their position - like the last 3 Supreme Court Justices did. It is better for all in federal service to the people to remember that truth matters, the people matter, and the Constitution matters. It's only by being flexible and honorable at the same time - which is hard for a lot of people, I know - that we, as a country, will be able to grow into our full potential. What we have now is a cancer that none can agree on how to treat for full and productive recovery. And before any of you start - no, I am not a democrat, or libertarian, or republican, or tea party - I'm more of a melting pot of all that with a lot of Constitutionalist thrown in for flavor, although I am a registered republican. I'm not strict party lines, because, frankly, a lot of those party lines suck, just as some of the democrat party lines do.

Basically a revolutionary, you may say. Trump and Trumpism has a lot of appeal to them in this regard, many even voted for Trump both in 2016-2020 and would vote again if he's on the ballot in 2024. If only WE, the people, KNEW and UNDERSTOOD the history of our nation. Sadly, we don’t and that’s intentional and strategic because the dumber and less informed we are, the more susceptible we are to accepting culture wars as legitimate political discourse and the more we allow for hateful legislation that goes against our own interests. Both parties have shifted throughout our history and they will continue to do so for the purposes of holding on to power. Just like in the rest of society, some folx get into politics with good intentions and worthwhile aspirations to serve, few if any remain untouched by the corruption and most become jaded the longer they’re in the game. The political class has historically been exclusionary and more about protecting their self-interests, just ask to see their bank accounts and you’ll notice, that most are not FOR US. Still, with all that said, the GOP is presently on the wrong side of history, but the Dems are showing us just how much they enable the status quo too. That’s why we must get rid of the feckless, obviously-corporate-bought obstructionists like Machin and Sinema who are getting in the way of the working class. Bernie and the Squad and people like Katie Porter are the only ones speaking truth to CORPORATE power, which is what most of our politicians actually bend the knee to. Of course, just saying what I’ve said makes people think I’m a socialist, communist who hates America because that’s how we’ve been trained to think. Regardless of race or background or age, we’ve been primed to respond to grievances and it requires a lot of effort and more education and the development of critical thinking skills to be an informed citizen who stands up for democracy. It requires us to self-reflect that WE are both the problem AND the solution. 💞

This is a global trend. Right-wing populism is spreading like wildfire among less educated people. Working class and people living in rural areas are embracing this neo-fascism of XXI century. On the contrary, people with higher education, living in large urban centers, are trying to defend the basic principles of Democracy. Unfortunately the latter tends to be a smaller portion of total population. Few examples: Erdogan in Turkey gets his votes from the vast rural areas of Anatolia, but has a smaller minority of votes in large modern cities like Instanbul. In UK, people living in London voted largely against brexit, but smaller cities and rural areas overwhelmingly supported brexit.

Being French, I totally concur with this analysis. The French left parties were traditionally oriented towards industry workers and low income public servants. Starting in the 1980’s, under Mitterrand’s 1st term, they began focusing on racial inequalities especially towards the Arab (Northern African) immigrants that had been settling in since the early 70’s. This new focus kept growing until the 90’s when the emancipation of developing countries came with a renewed criticism of the former colonial powers and, more generally, the « white male » domination. This is the equivalent of *wokism* in the US which is a great keyword for understanding the current political and sociological fault lines. In the early 2000’s, a left leaning French political think tank named TerraNova developed a political strategy that called for the left to give up focusing on its traditional basis of workers and public servants to put its main effort on the Arab 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants, most of whom were still poor, with a low education, piled up in high density racially separated suburbs. They suggested that these were the « new proletarians ». Concurrently, the main far-right party grew up and became less and less rejected, as it took a turn to strongly attract low income and poorly educated workers, mainly white but not only. The traditional conservative parties kept their moral compass and refused to ally with the far-right, but was badly weakened when Macron succeeded in developing a powerful new dynamic at the center of the political spectrum. Coming back to the US, the two-party system, almost imposed by the existing institutions, is a major cause for the whole GOP to have cowardly caved behind Trump and refuse to condemn his insane behavior, as they have no future outside the GOP and can’t agree to oust and demolish Trump. The Dems have been, as the video rightfully stresses out, extremely cynical regarding white workers and possibly more recently, Latino immigrants, pushing them towards the extreme right. The religious and cultural identity factors should also not be underestimated, with conservatism being very appealing and reassuring to these people. Same in France.

You do realize that real democrats have been hamstrung by gerrymandering, which will always have Republicans in charge OR have the power to stop any real democrat policies (the ones you believed in) Republicans have wanted to gut SS since 1997 (ever since more minorities started qualifying for it) Your problem is looking past the glass veneer that the media has conditioned you to see. A real lifetime Democrat can weed through all the BS. (also moderate Democrats are nothing more than centrist Republicans) They will never fully support REAL SOCIAL programs. Not this, will give a few million to poverty, but we will give $$Billions to farmers who have sold out to International companies anyway. (Japan owns the largest beef ranches in Texas) OR constantly being told to go for the American dream, BUT you have to work for low wages all your life (everyone can't be doctors, etc) While the investors' groups are pocketing $$milions from your hard labor. Naw, I can't believe you were a lifelong Democrat and don't understand the political dynamics of politics.

As a Johnson County resident and a Democrat, I attribute the switch to a couple of things: 1. Trump in combination with the near destruction of the state by a certain Governor (and the only positive thing Donnie did was to give that monster a federal government job). 2. More moderate Republicans realizing that they have more in common with Democrats. 3. Democratic candidates running and governing as "Republican lite" at the expense of progressive Democrats like myself.

I'm Canadian and consider myself left wing, vote NDP, won't cross a picket line, you know the deal. What does "progressive" mean? From where I sit, it looks like trendy elitism dressed up in righteous clothes. If "progressivism" is about urban elitists thinking themselves superior to the "deplorable" working class, I want no part of it. And that seems to be what it's about, at least from my vantage point north of the 49th.
