Very true. Also you can assist your loved one when it’s time to eat (so they can get their energy back) or if they have to use the bathroom (prevent a fall) . Like you said they’re under staff and very busy.

I was in the hospital for leg surgery. While sleeping on heavy meds, I was being transported to a hysterectomy. The nurse did not check name, DOB or room number. My mom was coming out of the elevator when she saved me from a catastrophe. I will never visit that hospital again. I never leave a family member alone.

43 here. 29 emergency room & 14 case management. Yes you definitely need to bring someone with you. Yes They are overworked. On the other side of the coin their training is lacking. Unlike the old days of nursing school. The schools don't let them do hands on like what I had years ago. Another thing orientation to a new job & being a new grad is sometimes as little as 2 weeks if they feel you are doing good. I know this for a fact because I still work prn in the ER as a case manager. I have seen new grads newly hired here & they never got to start an IV in school. When I was in school we had to spend 8 weeks in ICU to get all of our check offs done. Nursing schools don't let them do that now & shame on them. Recommend to have someone with you & if you feel the nurse is not experienced. Has for another nurse or speak to the nurse in charge. Everytime someone in my family, friends or church has to go to ER they call me to be with them lol & I don't mind.

Not just this, but also look out for doctors who bill you and never saw you! They’ll consult other doctors, and sometimes all they do is read your chart and then charge you THOUSANDS! Also see if your doctor is seeing you everyday! If not make sure they don’t charge you!

Yep, been telling them for over a month to check his stool ... Now he's coming back to being himself. I kept telling them over and over everyday... 😮😢.

When my Precious Mother was in a Nursing Home, I literally spent 16 hours a day from 4:00pm to 8:00am for 390 days. Never missed a day. The staff absolutely hated me because I made them do their jobs.

Because of the RN nursing staff shortage..in MA and NH nursing students can graduate with a 2 year “Associates degree in Nursing” and then take the RN licensing exam!! If they pass the exam they are hired as an RN at major MA hospitals, wearing the RN badge but do not have the full 4 years of education or experience behind that badge. It’s not like the old days for sure. What’s worst, then the 1x/day visit by the assigned Hospital “fly by” doctor is briefed by a rookie with only 2 years of schooling. It’s a crock. Good luck out there!

RN - You should have someone stay with patient even overnight. Staffing is at bare bones minimum at night.

My daughter is overworked as a nurse. She needs to take her breaks, which do not come, especially on 12-hour shifts. The patient's needs are demanding. Some patients think they are entitled and think they are in a spa. The presence of a family member would be helpful. Be kind to your nurse.
@elainegoad97773 күн бұрын
We know hospitals are short staffed but it's not the patients fault and patients are "Entitled" to good proper care because we pay for it.
