Wow! I had the nineteen nineties version of this. My little robot accompanied me through some of the worst and best moments of my life. He was at my bedside when I woke up from heart surgery as a teenager and sitting on the headboard of my bed as I left him and went off to college. I hope whoever bought him is enjoying him as much as we enjoyed ours.

This robot was my favorite toy when I was 6-9 years old. I think that and my Speak & Spell were my only companions when I had to spend weekends at my grandparents' house in the 80s. Wow. I was such a geek.

I got this for Christmas in 1978. It was my favorite toy for years! I think I had about 12 different 8-tracks. The one on the Metric System was fun - back at that time, they were telling all school kids that we were all going metric by 1990. It seemed so far off in the future.

I remember one day I purposely answered all the questions wrong in a category and the robot spoke negative. I mean it literally belittled me...🤣. Though I was young I recall thinking that the toy was *programmed* to do that. And since it was, meant that a kid that *didn't* get those questions correct because they truly didn't know,, would be made to feel stupid. *TRUE STORY*

My younger sister had this version of 2XL, which was such a great educational toy. We had so much fun learning from this robot. That voice of 2XL was absolutely perfect. For some reason I always remembered what 2XL said. Perhaps it was that super clear voice of the robot that just made me remember the information very well. Once in a while we would just press the wrong button to hear what the robot had to tell us. There should be a 2XL website where today’s young children can have fun learning with this wonderful and charming robot. It would be great if 2XL got another reboot with new learning material, and the exact same voice, but now the robot would be able to move around and have all kinds of cool functions like a droid from Star Wars.

I remember one time... only once, there was some kind of tape error or something that kinda sounded like a fart... and wouldn't you know it 2-XL said, in that 2-XL voice, "Oh, excuse me..." I thought this was the funniest thing I'd ever heard at the time (I was about 8 years old) Nonetheless, one of my favorite toys as a kid, and as a teenager 2-XL kicked out the jams from the old 8-tracks I had kicking around

I had the compact cassette version of this toy in the 90s. I prefer the older 2XL voice over the new one its more cartoony. Plus the one you have looks like it was pulled right out of Lost in Space, whereas the 90s version looks like the bastard child of the maid from the Jetsons and Johnny 5.

@@databits Thanks. I just recently got the original version of general information. I will have to check it out. There are two different versions of general information. One was recorded in 1978, and the other was recorded in 1980. The labels are identical. The revised version has the same copyright date as the original general information of 1978. The only way to tell them apart is by listening to them. Some of the questions are changed and 2XL says different things in the introduction.

I was born in 1977, and I remember finding my parent's 2-XL in the mid 1980's in some long lost area of the house just getting dusty. I think I only found 1 or 2 tapes that survived past 1978, but even then, the power adapter was long lost. So this is the first time I've ever actually seen 2-XL play a tape. It's kinda wild.
