This voice is absolutely AMAZING for documentaries. Perfect reading, spaces between words, all of it !

The voice and pausing is fine but sometimes they use the wrong choice of words when they are trying to explain something. E.g she says "This is the gateway to the internet" when she should have said "This is one of the gateways to the internet". The building they show isn't literally the one gateway to the internet

notice this was made circa 2013. then cpu consumption power was astronomical. fast forward just 5 years and cpu power is the lowest EVER with most having the ability to control the amount of power used in peak operations. this was not yet the case in 2013 where cpu's ran full power full time. modern day data centers are set for load balancing and when the demand is not there things power down.
@drachenfliger13682 жыл бұрын
@@gretchenwhitmersucks9122 this has to do with CPU architecture, since modern CPUs have smaller transistors that have less resistance, they don't get as warm as then and costume less energy.

Key elements in a Data Center include but are not limited to Internet Redundancy, Cooling Redundancy, Critical Power protection such as UPS’ and Generators. 24/7 security is always a must not only with CCTV and Controlled Access but with staff around the clock. Network monitoring, Network protection, Remote Hands and customer support are also among the top priorities for a Data Center.

these 'facts' regarding an email taking a lightbulb for an hour is total bullshlt
@howlingwolven5 жыл бұрын
The part they fail to address is that the whole chain isn't just processing a single email. It's processing hundreds of thousands.

5 Wh for 1 MB or 24 Wh for 5 MB of Data is - on average - realistic for sending/storing an email. Even today is not that much better. Yes, Google & so on got way efficent but the rest of the backbone not that much. There are still some datacenter with a PUE of 3 and above whereas Googles datacenters in the US have all a PUE of ~1.2 PUE. And you have to keep in mind the data is send from your pc to your email server, from there to the email server of the recipient were its stored too and than to the recipient. Further you have to consider that in the EU in 2013 were basicly no lightbulbs over 25 Watt allowed to get the reference.

*@dj osearth* You seem like your typical internet user who thinks all this internet is "in the clouds", which hardly uses energy..... Ofcourse they didn't mean your e-mail takes that amount of "lightbulb" energy . They meant the total footprint of materials used ,glassfibre, copper ,buildings ,to all the workers (and the energy they use ) . Looking at it from that point it makes actually some sense.
@KirbyJ893 жыл бұрын
Their probably right about it being 24wh for 5mb but their leaving out that 5mb is sent in half a second or less. So unless your pounding out 120emails a minute the energy usage bandwidth wise isn’t what they state.

During winter, they should open the roof some ways to save some energy.

They actually draw cold air in from outside during the winter to save energy. Been working in them for about 9 years.

Instead of just names and personal informations, why not store each person's DNA structure? If if cloning became a reality we could just recreate ourselves...

Mails from france go through the seacalbe to a datacenter in the USA and back? Realy? Have you heard of CDNs? stopped watching right there.
