After 20 years of gigging mainly with Octatrack & Elektrons - i find it so fitting to change my workflow to Push - which acts like a bridge between Software & Hardware instruments. I can use my favorite plugins such as Fors Opal & Roland 303 - along side the great Perkons drum machine. With the help of a midi controller, I have all the controls I need in front me.
The tutorial video goes through how Ableton Push 3 was integrated into my Liveset along with Erica Synths Perkons and a Midi controller.
Dare I say, this workflow almost feels like an 'Octatrack 2 dream' of mine... don't let others stop your dreams.

Super nice! Looking forward to hearing more of this Cenk. What’s kind of ever so gently amazing (for me) is that I also played at minimal Mondays, back in 2013 or so (with Push 1!) so nice that it’s still going! Love Vilnius too

I heard that the Perkons does not respond well with syncing to external midi clock, how do you have this configured?

It was the only gear that synced perfectly to my eurorack via midi without extra settings. Same with my Maschine plus 😅

I'm hoping to use the Push in standalone mode for live sets. Will your tutorial still be a useful guide?

I am using Push in Controller mode with a perspective of combining Hardware gear with Software plugins. So it may not give you the idea you are after as I do not use Push in Standalone. If I may say, Push almost seems Standalone on stage when it is just plugged into a computer by a single cable on the side with Push's midi I/O & Audio I/O. With the bonus of being able to use Plugins and Record your LiveSet as Live Arrangement Midi CCs. On the other hand, sure I can see myself being able to play this LiveSet on Standalone - but I will have to do some extra work. When using it in Controller mode, it saves me time and makes things easier for me.

Only the onboard compressor on Perkons - I mean, that makes it sound insane :D It goes into Push audio input, which has EQ, Filter and Send FX - controlled via midi controller.

The beat at 28:56 slaps! I’m surprised at the move to Ableton, I understand that recording and plug-in usage is useful. But I feel trapped performing in Ableton, navigating the screen and trigger scenes at the right time (or follow actions just make it rigid). So I’m thinking of getting an OT to do Ableton’s sampler/sequencing duties, just surprised to see the OT pioneer himself choose Ableton!

The OT feels outdated now, Push 3 as an interface for hardware feels much more up to date, especially with the ease of use with ADAT. He's also using Fors Opal for sequencing, which has an Elektron's style workflow, which isn't surprising considering that Fors was founded by an Elektron's former employee, Ess (Digitone's designer).

Yeah I get it and I totally agree. I'm very comfortable and fast in Ableton but for live performance there were too many annoyances, the final straw was being dependant on a 3rd party max for live device to sync session view scene changes to elektron (A4mk2) pattern changes, it's not reliable. So I got an OTmk2 and I absolutely fell in love, I embrace its limitations and I love going DAWless, it's refreshing. And yeah Ess's Fors is great, I adore his plugins for producing, but for live perf I need tactility. @@BassAnywhere

Yes that's right, I left early 2021. Then Push happened - which captured my mind in terms of 'how I can make it my own workflow', the common Ableton Live use case :) But this time with combining Hardware & Software. When I was building this set I used elektron and other bits of gear to record into Push. When playing out, I wanted to strip gear and focus more on music. Push allows me to do that exactly and Perkons - well what can I say, that's a one hell of a drum machine - simple, direct and mad.

I love your work man but $32 USD for a 4 track album and a 30 minute tutorial is pretty steep. Even a whole ask audio tutorial that is hours long does not cost that.
