Hi I'm Heather and I am a Neurotypical woman dating a man with Aspergers.
Any relationship is hard but there are extra challenge that come with loving an Aspie.
I share with you the good and bad and everything in between.

Hi Heather, I completely understand you, I have the anxious attachment style as well and also trauma from my childhood. I only just recently learnt my biggest mistake in relationships and why I was failing every single time. We are seeking for someone who would be our happiness and fulfilment. We project all our needs onto 1 person and expect them to satisfy our needs in order to make us happy. This will never work with anyone and be even worse with ND. We need to learn how to be happy from within and how to love ourselves first. Then we will attract love and relationships that will reflect our abundance. I hope you are feeling much better now. You don't deserve to feel upset and even more anxious. No men should treat you with disrespect or humiliate you. You need to draw boundaries. Work on self worth and self-esteem and learn to love yourself. It will change your life forever. This is my advice and believe me it's coming from the bottom of my heart because I see myself in you.

Please go to therapy for your codependency and anxious attachment. It seems like you’ve been hurt and abandoned before, and you’re still stuck in the rollercoaster of the anxious-avoidant chase. Sure this time around it’s not an overtly abusive partner that you’re dating, but the dynamic is the same. You’re addicted to the hot and cold. When he comes back around that’s your “reward” and furthers your codependency.

I'm an Aspie, and its the exact opposite with me. I'm the one with anxious attachment anxiety and my bipolar wife is the one who wants to be left alone!

I can totally relate to your experience with anxiety. I was first diagnosed with anxiety appx two decades ago. To add to it, I started my marriage to my beloved (ASD) with an anxious attachment; while he evidently has an avoidant attachment. Yes, very difficult dynamic, indeed! The good news been that these attachments together work. At almost three years into my neurodiverse marriage, I assure you, you both will feel more secure together. It takes hard work, a lot of parience, and perseverance, but it is totally possible. LOVE NEVER FAILS and this includes neuro-diverse love 😉💛💛💛

Hey! I just want to say that I could really relate to the issues with (lack of) emotional validation and comfort. My attachment style leans towards anxious, and I recently dated a girl who had aspergers, unfortunately it didn't work out. I just wanted to tell you that a lot of what you said really resonated with me, I just can't deal with couple-related emotional issues solely by myself, thats not how I'm built. While I don't need constant texts, I do need emotional validation from time to time, and when she was emotionally not present (whether physically present or not), it was impossible for me to deal with, and for me - it ultimately broke the relationship. Obviously that's only one side of the story, I just wanted to say that I can relate and thank you for making this video!

Hi John, thank you for writing this comment as it's good to see that there are some sensitive men out there who also display this attachment style. It's not just us women. I hope you find a girlfriend who can fulfil your attachment needs. I don't need constant texts, as everybody has busy lives, but my ASD (wonderful decent lovable) boyfriend sometimes goes a few days without replying to my texts. Surely ONE text a day wouldn't hurt, even when he is in a withdrawal phase.
