Dating in Colombia can be risky and dangerous for people who don't know better. Trying to find a Colombian girlfriend without understanding the culture and looking in the wrong places have ended many men's lives, unfortunately. Let's ask local Colombian men their opinion on this topic.

There use to be a show called scam city, and it showed different scams around the world. They give one piece of solid advice about how a scam starts. Someone approaches you. That's how it starts. Doesn't matter the story, if you want to avoid trouble, when someone approaches you, say no.

I think some don’t want to hear about it because they are looking for the FUN PARTY videos but your realistic approach is very important bc these things do in fact happen. I’ve seen it in other countries. To be honest, Ive seen men that are not so much a 10 talking to a girl that is young and a clear 20 rating and they don’t have any questions in their mind as to what’s going on. Then I’ve seen them leave with the girl. Mind you the girl is SOBER while they are barely standing! Smh 🤦🏼‍♀️ Great interview.

I really enjoy your channel and I like how you address safety issues from time to time. I grew up in NYC when it wasn't safe, it's much better now than before. A lot of our friends that grew up in very safe suburbs and even my little cousins (they're from CA), they always think we're being paranoid about safety. They think the world is like how they grew up. I feel like people that grew up in safe bubbles have a hard time understanding the world is very different. When my little cousin moved to NYC for a bit, she didn't listen, was out at all hours all over and admitted she was very scared in some neighborhoods. They were areas we warned her about avoiding especially at night. Nothing happened to her but I don't understand why people put themselves in those situations when warned. Thanks! We'd like to travel throughout Latin America and your channel comes in handy :)

I know i'm a huge dumbass. I flew to Colombia last month to meet a woman i had been talking to for 7 months through an app. But i had my wits about me the entire time. But I think i was one of the few lucky people. She was the nicest most genuine woman ever. She really really looked after me throughout my whole trip. She was telling me what to do and what not to do. And she was always close by to me when we were out in crowded areas. She never let me go out at night and she took me to lots of cultural spots to see. We went to a lot of museums and sights. All in all it was such a wonderful experience. I got to see how beautiful Colombia is. But i do want to say even if you want to do something like this please be careful and never let your guard down. It was only really after a week that i felt like she didn't have any ulterior motives. We are currently organising her Visa to come live with me in Australia. She honestly such a nice woman and she also has aspirations to live outside of colombia and improve her english as well. I'm truly blessed to meet such a wonderful and caring woman. I'm only young still and so is she so I realise what i did was super super dumb. Travelling alone to a country that i don't know the language of. And i stood out like a sore thumb as well because i'm asians. xD

Great video David, as one who has traveled the world and now live half the year in Colombia and half the year in the Philippines the advice the two guys gave was right on. I know Colombian women are on the conservative side and will not go back to a guys apartment after just meeting them so that would be a huge red flag. They are also not pushy but very feminine and wait for the man to lead, so yet another big red flag. Good job David.

Yeah, I lived in Medellin for 5 years after having visited at least 20 times. I already speak Spanish fluently, having taken Spanish in school as it was required and I always dated Latina's in the states. Anyways, lived in Provenza in the best part of town, and one day I let my guard down and that's when I got robbed and stabbed. Luckily, I made it to the hospital in time before I bled out, so I was lucky to be alive. But it gets worse, when it was time to get discharged , the hospital administrator was going to have me arrested because I didn't have money to pay my bill (I had just been robbed of everything!!). Luckily the attending ER doctor was nice enough to pay my bill when the police showed up to take me to jail (for not being able to pay my hospital bill after I just got away with my life), and I went back the next day and paid him back. The moral of the story is that there is a HATE for foreigners (extranjeros) that did not exist when I first started going there back in 2014. Sure people will smile and want to be your friend, because if you are a good person with a good personality, that is attractive to people now matter where you go. But the tourism and the way it has affected the local population has created a resentment that will come back to bite you in the ass when you least expect it. I will be selling my place in Medellin this year because between the Velezanos and Colombians that work as gangs, they waited to strike when I least expected it. Ask Colombians about how they feel even about the huge influx of Velezanos, they are not happy about what that has done to the country the last seven years. This poor guy in the video who just bought a place and is wearing rose colored lenses, be careful man. You seem too trusting and naive, this is not Texas or Hawaii! Keep a low profile, maybe rent your place out so you have the real estate ownership marker down (which is how I'm sure you got a R type Visa, which is what I did, so that's how I know). Rent short term and move around, that is how a foreigner has to operate in Medellin, as eventually something will happen. And it's only going to get worse. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A FOREIGNER IN ANY COUNTRY YOU ARE NOT FROM, and with that comes racism and resentment. Don't shoot the messenger......... Good luck to all!

Many westerners are shocked when they find out that medical care is paid for on the spot in most of latam. If you have insurance they figure out how much the insurance will pay and what you're going to pay out of pocket right then and there. Being in a nice part of town means you went to an upscale hospital so the bill was a lot higher. In fact, in some places in latam they even refuse to care for locals if they don't have insurance or if they don't pay first (for example if you go in with a gunshot wound where you can die and the clinic be left holding the bag) so you were probably taken care of because you were a gringo in the first place.

David, you are not fear mongering. The truth is there's a lot of lonely men in the United States, and they don't know where else to go due to the lack of quality women in America. Bottom line, if you're looking for girls, there are certainly safer countries to try than Colombia. I think the reason this continues to be a point of contention is that Colombian women are known for being exceptionally pretty, and the prepagos are known for having exceptionally low prices. I place more blame on the lack of respectable women in the United States, than I do on a bunch of naturally horny men. My two cents, for what it's worth. But no, I don't think you are fear mongering, I think all of your statements are very much valid

Pal, you just defined perfectly the root of the issue with foreigners that end up drugged. It's pretty simple. Another major factor is the language barrier. I'm sorry, but if someone does not speak and comprehend 95% Spanish. And if you're weak and seeking an unforgettable weekend with your dream woman. You're more likely to lose and end up in the street or death.

There is no "lack" of women in USA these guys want sex with no strings - you get that with a working girl. Stop making it more than what it is. IF guys cant maintain ladies in USA that is their own personal problem and that having no game. Females in alot of cities out number dudes. Its easy now for fella to trash women for his short comings that is the problem. Not surprised by any of these dues get caught slippin.

@@JohnDoe-fz7hz Challenging? Most of them have a profound sense of entitlement. I have found them to be vain, judgmental, untruthful, close minded, and to put this as politely as possible, of low intelligence. And to top it off, most of them are not very pretty. “Nobody is fake” 😂😂😂 Bro, that has to be one of the most absurd statements I’ve heard about Colombia. Respectfully!! I’m from Miami, and I’ve dealt with countless Colombians and Venezuelans. Personally speaking, they’re some of the fakest people I’ve met, and I’ve met a lot. On the other hand, Haitians and Jamaicans (Black Caribbean folks) keep it real to the fullest. Russians too. I never met a Russian that faked a smile Lol and a lot of them were cutthroat and not friendly. Back to the topic though, men going abroad looking for women gotta be careful. Not only in Colombia, but anywhere. Tourists in other countries, be advised, you’re the prime targets out there. A Colombian robbing a local probably won’t get much as opposed to a foreigner that probably has money and other valuables. If I go to Colombia, I’d go in a group of at least 5 people, and even then there’s still no guarantee of safety. Stay alert. Happy new year.

What many foreigners don't understand is how much crime has skyrocketed since the pandemic and the influx of 3 million mostly very poor Venezuelans. Venezuelan girls are gorgeous also and they can easily trick some sex repressed dude into dropping his guard. This is why these types of crimes are gaining popularity. Not to say there aren't Colombians doing some of them but many are done by girls working for Venezuelan gangs which are notorious for the sheer violence they perpetuate. Ask any Peruvian, Ecuadorian or Chilean and they will testify to what I'm saying. In a country of 50 million people, three million is a HUGE number. That's 6% added to it's population in only a few years! It's not scapegoating, it's reality.

Im in Medellin right now with my family. I agree if youre looking for trouble, youre going to find it. Be it looking for women, drugs, etc. I find ppl here to be super friendly, the type that will take the clothes off their backs to help you. I would just say treat everyone with respect and it will be reciprocated.

Great video! Thank you for taking the effort and the opportunity of using your platform to share this vital message. Anybody who's lived in Medellin for an extended period of time knows what you are saying is the truth. It's just a fact of life here, (there , I just moved back to Canada after spending two years there) Unfortunately I think this trend of drugging and robbing, even killing/kidnapping foreigners is not going to end anytime soon. So the best we can do is make people aware of the true dangers that exist in Colombia. In the end people have to make their own decisions based on the information they have. My own two cents for what it's worth, if you're looking to party and find beautiful women do NOT go to Medellin, choose another destination , yes it may be more expensive but it's pretty much a guarantee your night is not going to end well if you're using tinder in Medellin. Suerte a todos!

Fellow Canadian who moved back as well. I made the mistake of romanticizing Colombia but in reality, the country has major issues. Not saying that Canada doesn’t have its own issues, but by god, when you see more sex shops than libraries in Medellin, it really makes you appreciate cities such as Toronto where I am from lol

If those two men are representative of general Colombian opinion, then there's no real sympathy for tourists who become drugged and robbed because picking up girls in bars and taking them to your room is "not part of the culture." This in turn means that there's no political pressure to crack down on the crime. This could explain why there are no sting operations. Personally, I'm not one to pick up women in a bar for sex. But for some reason, I still do not feel like Colombia is safe enough for me to visit. I consider myself a friendly and chatty person. Who's to say that a merely friendly and chatty person cannot be targeted? I'd prefer to be in a place where I'm much more relaxed. 😊

This video has alot of truth. It's true most normal Columbian women will not go to a guy's apartment right away. In most cases, you have to take time to know the girl and in some cases meet the family. Americans think of Columbians as a lower class and thus an easy lay. It's quite the opposite. Most Columbian women are wholesome and family oriented and in reality, it would take a long time before she decides to sleep with you.

The public transport system in Medellin is the best I've ever experienced in a city. The size and layout of the train carriages is so practical and accommodates wheelchairs. I've been 3 times and there's always a new tram or cable car line that's been opened. Plus, 1 ticket, 1 trip. No distance or zone prices like Sydney. This city has it's shit together. Plus it feels good when you're there.

Thanks for the tour, David. Makes me want to go back to my favorite country. On the subject of your video- why spend your time in a big city? I say spend a few days in Medellin and the bulk of your time exploring the country. There’s so much to see. Other places like the Eje Cafetero, boyaca, Santander, are safer. There are great places to hike and enjoy nature. Dont do stuff after dark, early to bed and early to rise, don’t try to “get lucky” it’s not realistic. However I am a little older and wiser, when younger it would have been a different story;-) Another thing - Colombians were almost always friendly with me because I was interested in their country and culture. I wasn’t trying to get laid or get high. They won’t respect you if that’s your reason for being there. I’ve spent a total of nine months in the country and traveled all over from putumayo and Nariño to Guaviare to chocó to the Caribbean coast and never had a problem.

David, I just wanna say thank you so much for providing this content. You are amazing bro! I've learned so much from you because unlike most channels about Latin America, yours is by far the most comprehensive and balanced, and I can see you genuinely want to help those who are looking for love abroad instead of teaching us how to get a cheap lay. You definitely have my respect. As someone who is planning to travel to Colombia (I live in California) and who is on his way to fluency in Spanish (I can understand 80% of what I read and hear now), I find your content extremely valuable and informative. I am hoping that I can make friends in Colombia, but I am not someone who is very trusting of others. But one thing I like about Colombians is how friendly they are, which to me is very attractive. I am more of an introvert, but I love to socialize with others. Not sure how social Colombians are on average, but I feel that I might be overwhelmed if I were to be with a girl whose family has gatherings so often and so frequently. I feel like it would exhaust me. Do you mind telling me how Colombians perceive those who are introverted? I am not the caricature of introvert though as I still like to socialize, but I also like to keep my circle small and intimate, without necessarily having too strong of boundaries against others and being unfriendly and antisocial.

Lots of victim blaming in Colombia and I get it. We can only watch our own backs and do what's necessary to minimize our risk. Let's not forget though that there are many cases where foreigners (and locals alike) were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. I've heard cases of foreign dudes thinking they're making local friends and they get scoped and wake up without a kidney. I don't think it's fair to say all victims should've known better.

Good idea and good job David. There's an entrenched blame the victim mentality there (dar la Papaya) as that's all they have, since the police and courts are about useless. They need to be on guard, and so do tourists. I'd like to see you sample at least a few more. You hit just one spot, and the two together were unlikely to contradict one another. I personally know of an English speaking Colombian hotel manager that said druggings of locals happens with some frequency. Though surely tourists are the prime targets. I'll add that I don’t know where they got the idea that 10K dollars is nothing to North Americans. It's a lot to me, and I'd bet the same applies to most tourists who find there way there.
