Gu Shengnan acted carelessly and thoughtlessly most of the time. And she got worse in the episodes of the series. The writers are to be blamed.

@@mtpgetes That she did. The worse part about a show is when the writers ruin a character or the character develops into such a way that was completely off the mark. In earlier episodes, I found her to be clever and stubborn.

@@personn4902 Yes, I enjoyed her so much in the first 10 or so episodes. Witty and self-assured. I am in my late 30s so I also prefer mature men in dramas. Sadly, in age-gap romances, they are often paired with naive, helpless women. Sorry, discussing gender politics even in dramas 🤣 But there are age-gap romances that succeed though. Older men with young intelligent women. My faves are Story of Yanxi Palace, and Sword and the Brocade.

@@mtpgetes I also prefer mature men. And never say sorry for discussing the gender side of things! I’m slightly happy you did. It’s true that they pair “helpless” women or naive women with them. It would be amazing to see an intelligent and self-assured woman like Andy from Ode to Joy paired with these mature men. I like the drama “The Story of Minglan” very much because the female lead is similar to Wei Yingluo in Story of Yanxi Palace. Minglan pretends to be meek and obedient, but she can be ruthless and cunning. Minglan was paired very well to a sly and mature man. Together, they made the show very enjoyable. I have gone off on a tangent, sorry about that.
