When I met my wife I was 22, like most I was just starting out. She was with me when I had nothing and we have built a life together over the past 22 years. Seems like people want everything their parents have right now. Big house, nice car, large incomes. They don’t realize our parents acquired these things over years.

In my experience, when you refer to people only relates to one gender in particular.

Another factor in Japan I just learnt about is VTubers. Girls and young women create cartoon versions of themselves and stream on KZbin as these cartoon people for sometimes 10hrs+ at a time at night doing wholesome stuff like singing songs, playing computer games and just chatting while guys stay online for hours to offer encouragement and occassionally throw money at her. There appear to be at least hundreds of thousands of Japanese guys into this, possibly millions and the Japanese girls who learn English become popular internationally. One girl reportedly had 4 million subscribers globally - its big business backed by management teams. One streamer said her KZbin demographics say her viewers are 95% male and the main age group is 25-34 years, which I couldn't believe. Guys in the prime of their life. This last point must also be a factor on reduced dating and marriages and it sounds like the trend will spread globally. As an elderly Japanese guy I saw on KZbin said, "in my day a woman was a very high priority, but now there are so many ways to spend your time that women are maybe not valued so highly anymore". I think he was spot on but there is room for all sorts. From those who'd fly to another continent to meet a girl and those who'd ignore girls right under their nose to stay up all night watching a cartoon girl. Each to their own but neither of those options appeal to me!

You are close but you're missing the whole picture, the reasons guys are doing this is because girls don't like them, they cant get girls, typically due to a combination of looks, social skills, mental health and social status. No guy chooses to watch cartoon girls streaming over interacting with beautiful women in real life that like them, they obsess over the streamer girls as a symptom of the real issue which is that girls dont want them.

This is a very big factor. I am 46 and nearly half the couples i know, my age, are international. Some met as students, some online. It both offers more opportunities, but creates a lot more pressure too. Everyone is competing against everyone else, very different from growing up in the middle of nowhere in the 1980 and 1990s..

My friend put it this way - back in the day you could learn a unique skill like a cool skateboard trick or dancing and stand out enough to get the attention of girls in your town. But these days, even if you are one of the best in the world at something, it's still not that impressive to girls because they've seen it all before online. The dating dynamics have completely changed and it's definitely not for the better.

For the average Joe, internet dating is a mug's game. The odds are so stacked in women's favor, that you are wasting your time. The 80/20 principle applies big time.

It's both good and bad. Good that you have more options, and bad because you have more options and you can't decide. It all comes down to the person. And how sustainable it is to build a relationship/family around an international marriage. It would be interesting to see how committed people are in these international and long distance relationships

Two words: Analysis Paralysis The guys and gals in Japan and elsewhere are no longer finding a guy in their hometown; now they have a choice of millions or billions of guys and gals from all over. Hence the paralysis, always thinking that there's a better choice just around the corner.

@nathanbutcher7720
@nathanbutcher7720 2 ай бұрын
They're not all materialistic in Japan, but having said that they are in the majority in my experience. It's a culture that expects quid-pro-quo to get anywhere. Women will always ask what your job is when you first meet them to determine how they should treat you. I knew one Japanese girl who would start fights with her so-called "boyfriend" and then expect them to "make it up to her" with a substantial present. I also had a English teaching friend there who constantly lied about being a lawyer, and it worked to get the girls back to his place.

@@nathanbutcher7720 Haha, back in my young buck days (late 90s/early 2000s), I knew of gaijin English teachers using the "I'm a pilot/lawyer/banker/IT whizz" to impress the J-ladies. I wonder if that is still possible in this day and age of 24/7 social media?
@nathanbutcher7720
@nathanbutcher7720 2 ай бұрын
@@thadtuiol1717 There was one pub in Roppongi back then called "Heartland" (nicknamed Heartlessland) where the bankers used to congregate for drinks. The gold-diggers would often show up there and complain if they ran into IT workers. If you don't have the trappings of wealth in Japan, as a foreigner you could always take on the English milkers. Of course, once those girls got sick of you, they were off dating Germans and French men and trying to learn their languages too! If it was one thing that tired me of Japanese women was their transactional relationships.

What's a cafe cheese bill? Can't image it having that much of an impact long term. Don't think the type of man or woman browsing the fling/dating market internationally will have that much of a crossover with the normal world. Atleast if you're looking for a more steady relationship. Holiday boy/girlfriends on the camping were a thing 30 years ago in france or spain already.
